OK well not brand new!! We got it at a garage sale for $5.00. It's a Sony TFT LCD Monitor and it's great - except...........I can use it as long as I am online but if I walk away for awhile when I come back it has shut it's self off. When I turn it back on it show a box that says something like "Not receiving a signal" I can get it back if I play with my monitor settings in my Control Panel but it take awhile.
There is a guy selling them (he has a lot of them too) on ebay that have the same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem - wonder if I'm missing some kind of software??

Have you gone on Sony's web site to see if they have a fix for the problem. Maybe they have a support email address and can offer you some suggestions. Mine was doing that (it's a Gateway) and it had to do with the inside wiring. I finally had to get a new monitor.

The first thing I thought of was that you had the monitor Energy Saving Features set to turn off the monitor after a certain period of inactivity. But you've probably already checked that I'm guessing. Just a thought.

Thanks Cheryl - I'll try the Sony site - the monitor works great and I got it as an extra so I'm only out $5.00 at most.
cta - I am pretty sure this is something to do with the settings but I am using a laptop and I'm not sure how to change the setting for both at the same time. I'm going to try setting up another keybroad and just close the laptop if that make any sense. I am only trying to use this monitor to save the laptop's monitor as I understand that's the first thing to go on a laptop.

I don't know what version of windows you have but in either case, it could be the power settings in the control panel. It might be set to turn off a monitor at a certain time. Don't know if this helps or not

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I just changed my setting for my monitor to NEVER turn off - like it ever gets a rest anyway (you know us ebayers) - so I'll see if that works until I get everything set up the way I want it.
Thanks everybody
