We're thinking of going to DSL for our computer usage. Believe it or not, we're both still on dial-up and really have had no big problems, with my selling on Ebay for 5 years and my husband's heavy usage on his computer. We have two phone lines now, one for general use plus my husband's computer, one just for my use, with no long-distance capability on it.

Seems as though I've heard people say good as well as not so good things about switching over to DSL, and I need to hear that again. Thanks in advance!

I can't think of anything negative about DSL. You will also be able to eliminate that extra phone line!

Is DSL available in your area? If so, talk to someone locally that has it and see how reliable it is. You have to live within a certain number of miles of the telco facility for it to be available, and in your particular area which is somewhat remote, it may not be available. If that's the case, cable may be your only option. Again, check with a local who is a subscriber and see what kind of service they provide in your town.

We got DSL a few months ago, and WE LOVE IT!! It is SO much quicker, you really notice it when viewing auctions with a lots of pictures. One of the things I like most is that our phone line is no longer tied up when we are online, and we now stay online all day.

I had to pay an extra $17.00 for an extra phone line when I had dial up.For $4.00 dollars I got
DSL and got rid of the extra phone line-it was a no brainer.

Tom-you know damn well your DSL is slow because you're a democrat-its a Bush conspiracy-vote Republican next time and I guarantee you will have no problems....

I have Bellsouth DSL and love it. I don't find it slow at all. There are different kinds of Bellsouth DSL. One is a "lite" which is alot slower than the business DSL.

I have cable here at home and had DSL on my previous job so I had the opportunity to use both at the same time. Cable is 1000 times better.

DSL or cable modem is a no brainer. You will immediately with you had done it sooner.

I design web pages, and no longer try to accommodate people with dialup. Files are just too big, and pages have too much content.

I have Time Warner/AOL cable which costs me 54 dollars a month including tax, which is higher than the other cable providers.
But what speeds up my surfing is not so much as cable,it is when i restore my Window 98 to factory condition and get rid of all that trojan and virus lurking on my system.

I finally got DSL from Verizon last August. The system on the East Coast has its periodic problems, but it's so much faster. Incredible difference.

If you can get Verizon DSL, you can get a router, both of you can be on at the same time with only $29.95 per month. They just changed their fee schedule from $34.95 to $29.95 if you sign up for a year.

Don't get Linux. It takes all the fun out of computing. No more blue screens of death. No more crashes. No more viruses to worry about. No more security updates or patches. No more profit to Bill Gates. Hell, you won't have a reason to drop kick the computer out the door anymore. All you can do with Linux is operate a computer the way it should be, and at twice the speed of Windows. Very boring.

Jack...Linux is an open source operating system, which means it's free. Windows XP is not free. It can add quite a bit to the price of a computer. Take a local computer geek with you to check out the machine after you give him a list of things you will need for the machine to fit into your business. Have him verify that it will do what you want it to do. Or, you can also pick up a late model computer at the swap meet, format the hard drive and pick up a copy of Linux and install it and see for yourself if you like it.

OK, thanks! Sparkz,,,,,You are saying, a computer is a computer BUT this thing they are selling at Fryes,,,,,,,,Wait! Linux, is a PROGRAM? instead of like windows 98,,,,,???? why aren't MORE people using it? there has to be some CATCH! yes? NO?.......$179.00 I'll give them in a heartbeat,,,,,,,BUT!

hahahahaha, getting cheap, I don't need no stinking $5.00 mouse with the unit and I don't need no stinking $5.00 keyboard either which most likely adds $50.00 to the $179.00 unit,,,,,So actually the computer is only $129.00....hahahaha. like they are going to go for that? hahaha. HEY, I can OFFER ,,,,right?
