OK, why would someone pay $1,325.00 or more for this?

This is just the next step after the repainted Barbies and Genie bottles. They bring ridiculous prices too.

They are one of a kind artistic creations which require a great deal of time and talent. How much do you think someone should pay for it?

Since my husband is almost a full-time artist, and has been for 10 years.....
This doll is unbelieveable! If I were a doll-collector and had the money, I'd be upset if I lost the bid. It's a must-have, one of a kind, piece! Mark and I are both pretty excited by this woman's work. We wish her much success!

Bradford Exchange (or one of those collectibles places) offers one just like it for FAR, FAR less money and it's nicer. $129.99
This doll isn't as cute, IMO - the one on eBay, that is.

Hi Cheryl,
OK, I can understand paying $129.00 for the bradford exchange doll but $1,325.00 for this auction. I still just don't get it. This artist buys her body parts on Ebay so it is not like she is sculpting it herself.

I don't get it either. I think the Bradford doll is cuter. It's anatomically correct as well. What's the big difference? They're both sculpted by artists.

I've been watching the reborn dolls. This one is definitely a must have for reborn collectors. I can't even begin to tell you how much time it takes to create a reborn doll. These dolls have "fat" puffs inside and weigh the same amount as a real baby. They feel like a real baby. They have little magnets inside their lips to attach a pacifier (for those dolls with their mouths open). They are very realistic looking. The hair and eyelashes are rooted one hair at a time with a very small tool. When you purchase these one-of-a-kind dolls, you are actually purchasing an artist's creation, much like a painting.

These dolls just freak me out little bit though.
They just do.
Maybe because I knew a gal that carried around a cabbage patch kid for quite a few years, treating it like a 'real' baby, (car seat, grocery store, etc.) because she wanted a real baby so badly. So she sort of freaked me out, too.

That doll is gorgeous. I can't even imagine the time that went into creating it.
If i had money to burn (and trust me, I'm so far from that it's not even funny) I'd probably have considered buying that doll.
Kudos for the winning bidder and kudos to the seller. She's got an imense talent.

This must be one of those love it or hate it things. For me it's the hate side - grosses me out.
Fenix says how much should someone pay for it - my answer would be zero, zip NADA!!!
Rant over - I'll go back to being my usual nice self now.

Then why only 129.99 on Bradford, but over 1,000 on eBay? Some people bid without first checking it out, I guess. Someone will be kicking themselves if they ever find out!
An investment, maybe. That's what people thought about Cabbage Patch dolls and the other fads. Look where they are now.

Cheryl -- The one she is selling is the prototype doll made for Bradford Exchange. It is the original doll that she crafted. The ones from the Bradford Exchange are manufactured to look like the same doll. Her doll is like purchasing an original oil painting and not a lithograph.

Ah, now that makes sense. She states that the doll has not yet been released. It was released a while ago. I've seen it in magazines for at least three months now.

Maybe I am strange, but I love it. If money were no object (then I wouldn't be selling on eBay I guess), I would buy it. As a mother of 4 and grandmother of 10, and ex-midwife,I love newborn babies, and this one is so realistic. Plus it takes no diapers, no sleepless nights, and it never grows up, what more could you want.

It is now up to $1,525.00.
Yes I agree that it takes talent to be that creative. But I just don't get it that someone would spend that type of money on an item as such. But then of course, it is not a mint vintage no. 1 Barbie. What would that fetch on Ebay?
Anyhow, it just baffles me that people spend that amount of funds for an item.
I guess that I am too practical about things & a little cynical maybe where I would rather spend it on food and upgrading my home.

I think it all boils down to whether or not one thinks of the baby doll as art. If you do, you understand how someone would pay that much for it.

Well, I guess it's the same reason why some people will spend thousands of dollars on a painting or a sculpture. This really is no different.
