A real live new one!

Last night where I live the electrial transformers blew (I think that is what the news said) causing big power outages (I work in the mall and half the mall closed when this happened). Well it blew up my sucky computer. Dead as a doornail.

So I begged and pleaded with my mother who put new computer on her credit card for me and agreed to let me make the payments.

IT's a Compaq Presario and I am amazed at how fast it is. I havn't had a new computer since 1997.

Now I have so much stuff I have to reinstall, including my stupid HP Printer that I had so much trouble with after installing XP last month. I cant' remember my Endicia Password when I tried to intall the program so now I'm "suspended" until I talk to them to reset my password. I'm installing Firefox right now and then I have to go to work.

I want to stay home and play, I'm so excited!

Helga, it sounds like you need a new printer too.

The new printers install and operate seamlessly with XP. Plug and play.

Just don't buy the extended warranty. My last printer cost $99 and they wanted $60 for the warranty. How drole.

Congrats!!! I know you have had lots of trouble with the old one - glad your mom helped out. Have fun (once you get it all set up)!

Agh. I just installed Firefox *yay*

but I did my printer and it sucks again. I'm going to have to call HP I think to do it. I installed everything but it's not detecting it and I don't remember how I got it to detect it last time.

Cant' buy a new printer ~ well if I didnt' want to pay my rent this week i could but I gotta have a place to house this baby.

I dont' want to go to work, i want to play!

Could I recommend a power backup with a surge suppressor? And don't forget to complain to your power company about the loss of your computer. In fact, you should research what resources are available to you in replacing a home computer due to your loss by power fluctuation. Have you checked your other appliances?

I had the system on a surge protector but it obviously didnt' work. Everything else in my house worked except the computer. IT was completely fried.

I found a printer at Walmart yesterday for $48. It's not a scanner, I don't need one now with my camera, it's just a basic printer. I think instead of dealing with all the crap with this other printer I have that I cant' get to work I'm just going to go ahead and get the one at Walmart when I get paid.

I have to reconfigure my Endicia label again. That took me almost a week last time. I dont know how I did it before, now I'm going to have to work on it again. That sucks.

So far I'm happy with the computer, even though it's XP SP2. IT's acting completely different than my other computer did.

But now I have a liscensed version of XP 2 that my dad bought and gave me and it's not going to do me any good now.

Helga you need a driver for your printer. Go to the HP website and download the driver for your printer. Just put your printer number in the box (Ithink) and it should take you where you can download the driver then reinstall your printer again and you should be good to go. Remember I said should. If your old printer is still good I would try that first before I buy a new one.

Question?? Is any of this covered by Insurance? How about calling the power company? There are solutions for this. Also tax deductible.

If instead of buying a Windows XP model computer, you had bought a Mac mini you would have a much better chance against virus and hackers. You'll need to constantly patch your XP OS against them (something I hate having to do for clients, but I love their money).

Good luck!

Put in Firefox & thunderbird & you be a lot happier. Also with XP, you will get automatic updates for all of Microsoft's patches without ever knowing it happened.

Alright I think I"m set.

I bought a cheapo printer at Walmart today ~ it's an HP, it does what I need it to do.

I installed it just fine ~ nothign like when I upgraded to XP before and couldnt' get my all in one to work.

I downloaded and installed my digital camera program.

My Endicia is up and working I think.

I think I'm good to go.

I have tonight off from BOTH JOBS so I plan on listing. Taking pictures and listing.

Go me

girls - tell everyone else that it doesn't hurt to buy a new computer - really!

XP is great compared to Windows 98.
