Let me rephrase and simplify my questions.

What is a resonable amount of time to wait for a paypal payment?

Should people be given the same amount of time (2 weeks) to send paypal as snail mail?

Well, greatlakes, they are. I give buyers two weeks to pay and usually get paid within a few days.

But you can't expect your buyers to read your mind ....put your terms in the auction.....sometimes they even READ them

I don't think you are being fair to the non PayPal bidders. I have a 10 day must pay in my TOS & hardly ever have a problem. If they are going to pay with P/P,as a rule they will pay immediately. I put a flat shipping charge in my TOS & have been paid overnight.

You may improve your bids with a 7 or 10 day limit. Bidders may bid higher if they can pay you from their next money influx, IMHO.

sanmar--" I don't think you are being fair to the non PayPal bidders"

I was only referring to paypal payments, I have always allowed people up to 4 weeks to send a snail mail payment.

I have no payment time limits in my auction at all right now and people are starting to take full advantage of that fact.

I will wait up to a month for payment before I file for FVF.

In the past, I would have one or two people every few months who were a little slow sending payment, but lately more and more buyers are taking their sweet time. Lately it seems that about 30% of my buyers are waiting until the 3rd or 4th week after an auction before paying.

Often I receive a snail mail payment before a paypal payment for auctions ending on the same day.

Right now, I'm still dealing with payments arriving from auctions that ended Feb. 10 and it's becoming a major hassle.

Time costs money, put a time limit on your TOS, then send reminders after 7 days & again after 10 days. This light a fire under your buyers & they will pay rather than get a NPB notice. I have found after 7+ ytears that people will drag their feet in paying if they can. Some bidders bid on a whim & really don't give a damz whether or not they get the widget they won.

Wait 4 weeks for mail payments???? 10 days at most is about right.

PayPal should be paid within a few days.

10 days, and I file NPB, as stated in my auctions. Lately, I've had to file quite a few. If you accept PP, limit should be 3 days. It's always the buyers that take their time paying, that complain about slow shipping.
I need a vacation---BAD.

I don't understand two time limits...one for Paypal and one for snail mail. I give them two weeks to pay, I don't care how, or which way, they pay.

greatlakes , has anyone convinced you to put something in your auction about time limits ?

Why not the same time limit? Even if they wait almost two weeks and still use PayPal, you have the money immediately, where a check would need to clear, plus needing to schlep paper to the bank.

They may also want to juggle stuff, and not make their payment decision right then. And then people like me who may be traveling a lot might not get to it immediately, even though using PayPal.

Crowfarm, I will probably come up with something about time limits, right now I'll leave it the same for paypal and snail mail.

Damariscotta, I don't wait for checks to clear, so that's not an issue.

Right now I list about 50 auctions at a time, two times a month, and I like to get everything taken care of quickly.

It's all the extra trips to the Post Office that cost me time and money, not so much when the payment arrives.

Snail mail buyers don't know when I receive their payment, so I can wait for other payments to arrive before making a trip to the Post Office.

Paypal payers always want next day shipping, even when it takes them 2 weeks to send the payment.

I think my new terms will have to include a limitation on how many days a week I ship. I'm going to have to eliminate next day shipping for people who are slow with paypal payments.

I recieve a lot of non payers, I just send them reminders for a few weeks then relist, I never give neg feedback for this, I just block them from my site.
If I give a neg feedback at them, and it turns on me, there goes another 10 bucks for a mediator.
If you don't have a hole!!! Then get one!!!

Body, by not filing for your FVF you are wasting YOUR money on the deadbeats. You are also allowing them to continue doing bad behavior that some other seller will have to address. At least file for you FVF so the other sellers will know the buyer is a deadbeat.

Don't worry about the negs. In the line of merchandise you are selling, you are going to be dealing with a lot of deadbeats. Don't encourage them by ignoring them.

BTW, I checked out your auctions. Interesting stuff. I spent the whole morning a few days ago learning about a whole new culture after I tried to find out what a labret ring was, lol.

greatlakes, why are you going to the PO? I print my own postage through PauPal & the delivery person piks them. I use an old kitchen scale to weigh the packages. The scale doesn't have be sxact. If yoiu are shipping by Priority Mail, it goes by the pund. I only ship by mail 4 lbd or less/ Everything over goes by FedEx Ground.

Oh, how I wish they would pickup.

Unfortunately, 98% of my items are books and I ship most by media mail or BPM.

As far as I know, the post office will only stop for a pick up if you have a priority or express package mixed with the media.

Last time I checked the USPS website didn't even offer the option of printing media mail postage.

Simple answer. The same time period as all other payment options.
End of story.

Well, you stand just as good a chance there of encountering a steroid-adled Republican governor (Ole Tiny-Stones) indulging his favorite sport: sexual abuse of anything vaguely female
