I see it. I like it.

It's the closest we'll probably ever get to a FLD.

After having been real busy with a son's (fun) wedding that happened yesterday, I just had my very last 'auction' go off about an hour ago. ... the only stuff we have left is pricy 'ebay store' items, period. ...

With this promo going tomorrow, I think I just got a great idea; tell me if I'm wrong.

What say I 'bomb' my listings tonight (end them all), CLOSE my ebay Store., edit and relist them all tomorrow in auction or fixed price format for a nickel each.

Since the ebay stores price increase isn't till I think the 18th of this month, whichever of these don't sell, of the ones I launch tomorrow, I could reopen my eBay Store in a couple weeks and get an extra free month of ebay store fee? I think????

(but not thinking clearly after partying all weekend. lol)

It doesn't show on my home page or My Ebay page. Maybe they launched it too early???

I'm wondering if this "sale" has anything to do with the rumors of the sellers' organized boycot set for the 18th?

I see it on my home page now with a valentine. Interesting that ebay did not include it in their messages on "my ebay" and also interesting that they "announced" it this early before the usual Sunday night listings launch. Should discourage people from listing tonight, one would think. Ebay must be worried because the "FLD" after Christmas turned out to be a 10 cent listing day. They weren't worried then to even make it a 5 cent listing day.

EBay's whole point is to keep the listing numbers up this week with the "expected" store boycotts and closings. With all those new listings, no one will notice the missing store items.

How many people were going to list in their stores for the 120 day option to keep the lower FVF rate? Many people will bomb their store listings and do regular listings tonight, and then re-list next week in their stores under the new higher rate.

Say what you want about their greed, eBay IS NOT stupid.

.... of which the higher rate will come whether we do this or not.

Are we now completely ignoring the long established trend of monthly promotions? Every month, whether there was an impending price increase or not, ebay has run some type of discount promotion - sometimes it is listing fee, sometimes and enhancement but there is one every month and has been for years.

Estate - I think it's a pretty safe assumption that ebay does not give you a free month every time you open a store. I think that promotion is limited to one occurance per account.

~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~
If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?
"of which the higher rate will come whether we do this or not"
I was referring to their stated plan to allow the old 5.25% FVF on store listings posted before the 18th. If you list for 120 days, you get the lower rate the entire time.
If you list something on or after the 18th, for any time period, the new 8% FVF applies.
So yes, the new rate is coming whether we do this or not, but it CAN be delayed by four months if you list things for 120 days.
ah... so unless we do 3 day listings on these ones we would bomb and relist tomorrow, then that is the only math that would work, yes?, and relist quickly into Stores, would that work? ....
I am SO tired from wedding fun. lol
fenix03 But a 5 cent listing fee for any starting bid in this, the so-called "busy season" is unprecedented at any time in Ebay"s history. The promotions we have been seeing each month lately consist of half price for borders, half price for BIN, occasionly free gallery but not lately since it's useage caught on, 10 cents for fixed price listings, 99 cents and under listings and reductions in a whole bunch of options that few people use.
If you list the item in your store for 120 days instead of the 30 or good till cancelled, then the higher FVF will not take affect on those items until they relist after the 120 days.
Cheers!
Or however you spell that sound.
120 days, 3 months, 4 months, Whatever. It really depends on your point of view. Time is relative after all. Just ask Einstein. Or maybe Ralphie can explain it to ya.
***A Message from Bill Cobb – 5˘ Listing Day Sale***
Date: 02/13/05 Time: 07:00:02 PM PST
Bill Cobb
Bill Cobb
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and we want to show you some love!
I’d like to announce a special one-day 5˘ Listing Day Sale tomorrow (Monday). Insertion fees for auction-style and Fixed Price format listings on eBay.com, eBay Motors (for non-vehicles listings) and eBay.ca will be a nickel. All other fees will be at the standard rates. You can get all the details here. For information about the promotion on eBay.ca, click here.
eBay’s success is based on the success of our buyers and sellers. We understand this, and we’re working hard to put those words into action more than ever before. I know a one-day sale is a small gesture, but I hope it helps.
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at eBay.
Regards,
Bill
P.S. This one’s for wendel22 and Libby.
Fenix -- Remember though, they already had a special this month with their "border for a quarter". I have to agree with everyone else on this one. I think ebay is trying to undue any damage that will occur when the store closings hit on the 18th as well as the planned boycott.
Will it be worth listing today or will auctions be buried?
Ron -- I checked the listings in my category and a lot of sellers are uploading the listings from their stores. So far, from looking through them, there will be about double the amount of listings than on a normal listing day by the time today is over. Personally, I don't go heavy in listings on these days. I list as I normally do. I know others won't agree with me.
An obvious attempt by eBay to pre-empt the no listing/no selling boycott to take effect Feb 18-Feb 25 and to encourage sellers to delay the closing of their stores.
