if it is such a good deal,why does the seller buy it himself??
unless you have it in boston or san francisco bay where you serve lobster or dungenese crab,who want to pay 50 to sleep in a small small cabin??
how much does it cost to convert this thing to a tourist eat/see/sleep site??

I'm sure there are quite a few people willing to spend $50 to spend the night on an aircraft carrier. That's not all that much considering that a hotel room in San Fransisco starts around $100. Last time I was there I think I paid a little over $200 a night.

thats true,it is something different.
last time i was there i spent 67 dollars but it was a long time ago and the hotel aint that great.

They have the USS Hornet aircraft carrier in Alameda ( next to Oakland ) and it only cost a few dollars to tour it and it is almost always without more than a couple of dozen tourist at any time. No one cares about the carrier and it only exists because of volunteer workers.

Since it's listed in eBay Motors the fee should be a flat $40.00, if it sells eBay gets another $40. I haven't sold many carriers, but I think that's the fees.

At the bottom of the page, right below the shipping costs, it states $2000 deposit. What's the deposit for? Is it required before you bid or what? Who would be something at that price from a seller with zero FB?

The carrier is the former HMS Vengeance, later commissioned as some name I can't remember in the Brazilian Navy.
She is docked in Rio de Janeiro, not Australia.
There is considerable doubt about whether it is the legal owner who put up this eBay auction, or whether it was done in order to annoy some British preservationists who want to see Vengeance retired as a museum.
Several deals to convert her into a theme park, etc. have fallen through recently. The ship's owner is now threatening to sell her for scrap.
In any event, the asking price is laughable. Recently she was offered for as little as GBP 1.18 million with no takers.

I smell a rat. The seller has zero feedback and is in Norway. And the ship is in Australia. Hope no one actually sends the $2000 just to see the ship.

LOL! I'm wondering where even Gates would put it. His main house is on Lake Washington  Lessee an aircraft carrier on Lake Washington, hmmmm, it would fit, but how would he get it there? and it would probably p*ss off the neighbors and boaters

Yes Ebay took 8 days to discover an obvious hoax. They only decided to pull the auction after they milked all the free publicity dry.

I hadn't seen that CNN article. Thanks for posting it. It's a bit discouraging that the reporter got so many details wrong when there is so much information available about the Vengeance on the Web.

Horsey - you should have read your entire article. The original and now missing auction was pulled by ebay because they thought that an aircraft carrier violated the No Weapons policy.
I have a feeling they pulled the relist because of hoax bids following the CNN coverage.

Fenix...One day those Ebay Poms Poms will cause you severe injury when they impale you. You should have read this thread. The Aircraft Carrier has no weapons and is for sale on the web to anyone in the world who wants to buy it.
By the way does Ebay have anymore job openings for ringers,flag wavers or Pom Pom dancers or does your excellent work fulfill all their needs.

Obviously you'd wish we forgot the hundreds of magazines,newspapers and TV Stations they bombarded with this big news event a year ago. Yes,there were quite a few official Ebay press releases on this other hoax.
