Hi, I remember quite a long time ago, someone posted a thread on bubble wrap. Do the bubbles go inside or out. A neighbor stopped in this morning when I was packing and insisted the bubbles go outside. I told her I use to do it that way, but the consensus seemed to lean towards bubbles in. It was a fun thread and even deviated to which way toilet paper should be put on, grab end from top or bottom.

Well, sometimes the bubbles are in and sometimes they are out. It all depends on how I grab the pile, I guess. Most often I have the bubbles out. But, with all the wrapping I do of breakables and the double boxing it doesn't much matter. Or does it? Let the debate being.

BTW, my TP roll is under. My boyfriend likes it over. Says it easier to grab. You know, the simpler you make it for a man, the better off you are.

Usually my bubbles go in but in a hurry sometimes they are out. I really don't think it makes much difference as I always wrap my jewelry in tissue paper first, put it in a zip lock bag and then the bubble wrap. Glassware I do both. first one in the second one out. TP - Over

I always do bubbles in... they are softer against the item and it's easier to apply the tape to the smooth part. With the bubbles in, the item is actually resting on little pillows... but with it out??? For that reason I never stick an invoice between the item and the bubble wrap, I want the item to be fully in contact with the bubbles.

As for the TP... DH likes it over... I put it on whichever way it happens to be in my hand. But paper towels always go over.

TP and paper towels--both OVER. Big discussion years ago on Dear Abby, and the argument was that decorated toilet paper doesn't show with the TP grab-end under. I don't buy decorated TP but it makes sense to do it this way.

Long ago I decided that with the bubbles out, there's more chance that the flat side of the bubble wrap will rub against the item I'm wrapping; could do damage to books, paper items, cold-painted collectibles, etc. But of course I first wrap things in colored Saran Wrap or tissue before I wrap in anything else. . . . so maybe it just doesn't matter.

When I worked for a chamber of commerce, a seminar presenter on "Change" and resistance to change told us the story of the woman who'd always cut the narrow end of the ham off before putting it in the oven. She'd been taught that by her mother and had taught it to her own daughters, too. When someone asked the grandmother why it was done, she said her oven used to be too small for the whole ham. Old habits die hard.

Bubble wrap in - easier to tape
Tp - to the left - if I put it on the roll I end up with TP confetti everywhere after one of the cats decides to attack the roll.

lol Fenix03 who knew a roll of toilet paper could get so big (give it to a cat for about 30 mins. it grows to twice it size)

I never really thought about which way my bubble wrap goes ...whichever I pick it up I guess lol but the smooth side out makes sense deltim ....much easier to tape to.

TP over. Bubble out. I had heard that bubbles in can sometimes leave a mark on certain items. I've never seen it myself - but didn't want to risk it.

Bubbles in. My pet peeve is when my boyfriend wraps things bubbles out. I told him the bubbles are supposed to protect the item, not the box you are putting it in. And I even used the bubble envelope analogy

Bubble envelopes all have the bubbles in. I say in.

I wrap bubbles in. And, here's another pressing issue- when you make the bed with printed sheets, which way does the top sheet go? Printed side DOWN, so you see the pretty flowers on the underside- under your blankets, and when you turn down the sheet, there it is, folded over on top! or UP, which doesn't make sense to me at all, but my hubby insists is the right way- and he was an art director, so somehow I think he should know. But I can't fathom it....

That's the correct way, so you can crawl in and sleep between all the flowers.

FYI: The universal standard in hotels: TP is over. I was a hjotel manager for LaQuinta & HOJO & this is taught to all maids. As far as bubble wrap, I don't pay any attention to in or out, it works the same both ways.

You mean the bedsheets are supposed to go on upside down??? I have never heard of that...

Maybe I can get double use out of them, one the bottom side gets dirty, just flip! LOL

bubbles in for cushioning the item, not the box

tp goes over the roll, much easier to find the end that way

sheets, if you make your bed then flowers down, if you leave bed a mess all day then flowers up

what about pillow cases? does the open end go the outside or the inside of the bed?

I always put the bubbles out on breakables, to spread the pressure of an impact over the greatest amount of area on the item.

The bubble is the biggest at the point of contact with the film, so if there is pressure against it, it will apply the given pressure over a larger area of the item, giving the least pressure per square inch on the item.

With the bubble in, it takes a larger area of impact and concentrates it on a smaller area, therefore giving more concentration of the blow on the item per square inch.

It probably is not all that much of a difference to worry about.

As far a bubbles go it probably doesnt make much difference. However as far as TP GOES
we in our house economize--we use both sides.
