I wonder if some of you computer gurus can help my husband with a frustrating problem he's having. As you'll see below, he's tried everything he knows to try. Thanks in advance if you have some advice for him. ~Adele

I recently upgraded my computer operating system from Windows Me to XP. After the otherwise successful conversion I found that when I opened Netscape Mail (version 7.1), the mail folders ("Inbox," "Sent," "Trash," etc.) had disappeared. I could still send e-mail, but not retrieve it from my ISP's mail server. When I tried to recreate the folders, the "New Folder" dialogue box simply froze. Uninstalling and reinstalling Netscape 7.1 did not correct the problem. I could find nothing on or linked to the Netscape support site that addresses this particular issue. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

roadsmith have him call your ISP tech support as they should be able to help you. My ISP is terriffic with those kind of problems. It might be something to do with the numbers in your options or something like that but they should beable to help you. Good Luck

I have problems with my netscape becoming corrupted every once in awhile, though it shouldn't be since you just downloaded it. What I do when this happens is close down netscape and then I create new profile for netscape (start menu - programs - netscape 7.1 - profile manager). You will need to open the new profile and create and email account for it (free netscape accounts work well to just test it). If everything works ok, you can use Windows Explorer to copy your bookmarks and any saved emails you need to the new profile. This has cured email problems for me before... it's worth a shot anyway.

Also... my DH was having horrible problems with his netscape email and with downloading files (it changed all .exe files to .jpg files so we could never execute a program). What I had to do there was create a new windows profile. The new windows profile worked like a charm.

One thing, ME hates to be upgraded over top of especially by XP

But if you are using Comcast for broadband they have some serious problems with email
Make sure your firewall is configured properly or turned off. Also Norton A/V can effect email but not as much as the firewall.

I agree that Comcast has some serious problems. Mostly around firewalls. I just upgraded my XP patches and then I couldn't connect at all. No Netscape; no IE; no OE. Nothing. Connection refused. So after wasting three hours trying everything else, I disabled my Norton's Firewall. And connected instantly. So while I was connected, I re-enabled it. And have been fine since. Go figure.

On another note, the XP patches scrambled some settings but I got thise back pretty easily.

Download the latest version of Mozilla. www.mozilla.org I use it for my email and the last time it screwed up I downloaded the latest version and it fixed it. (never would on the older versions)
It is the same program as netscape 7.1 but has a lot of updates.

Finally solved and done! And thanks, everyone, for your helpful suggestions. Here's my husband's final report:

My final solution to problems that arose in Netscape 7.1 after upgrading my operating system
from Windows Me to XP turned out to be the thermonuclear option:
1. Uninstall Netscape.
2. Delete all remaining Netscape folders (after first making a copy of the files in my Mozilla user
profile).
3. Reinstall Netscape.
4. Create a new user profile.
5. Set up a new Netscape e-mail account to communicate with my ISP's mail server.
6. Paste into certain crucial files in the new profile (bookmarks, address book, etc.) the content
of the corresponding files copied from the old profile
