I sold an item that the buyer says was paid for by Money Order. She emailed me the receipt for the purchase of the money order. I told her to check it out at HER end to see if the money order was cashed. Did I do the right thing??? Is that possible??? Thanks in advance!

She should do the checking. IMO, it was stupid for her to ask you to check. A dishonest seller could say, "No, it wasn't cashed. Must be lost. Send me a new one."

Some of the non-post office money orders can cost up to $6 to trace. All make the tracer wait at least 30 days to start the trace and the trace can take up to six weeks. Money orders sux.

You've got that right. Especially money orders in US funds drawn on foreign banks!

I just emailed a bidder who's payment hasn't arrived yet (been 30+ days).

There response................???

"Well, I sent a money order the day after the auction closed. I guess YOU should have bought insurance on my money order since this is what you sellers always say when our packages get lost. I am not about to make another trip to get another money order for you. If it arrives please send my item. If not, then I guess you might want to start paying to have your bidders insure your payment."

I'm not about to even humor them with a response to that!

That's the cop out many buyers use to try to weasel out of a deal. If they get a neutral or negative feedback they respond with a 'money order was lost in mail' phrase. If a buyer wants out of a deal there's a hundred different ways they can try.

If any payment method should be avoided it may be the non BidPay money orders. But again, bids are so needed that they must be accepted to gather in as many bidders as possible.

I just added checks as a form of payment because a money order got lost in the mail.
I know the guy sent it because he is a regular buyer and sent a replacement as soon as I told him it never came.
