Boy,here's a new one for me.

A buyer with a feedback of ONE has requested
AFTER winning he'll send me a check.
I write back,NO CHECKS! Stated this in the auction twice...bidpay or USPS MO only..

A short while later he emails back that he purchased the money order and if he emails me the money order number will I ship it right away.He needs it by Tuesday!

Of course I won't...This situation will now have me
running to the PO to cash that Money order before anything ships.

Unbelievable what trnaspires in some transactions.

This buyer must have his head in the clouds or somewhere else. Who in their right mind would ever consider shipping without payment?
You don't have yto worry about the MO, It will be good. Cannot be cancelled.

Let me get this straight. He expects you to believe that he has a money order made out to you that he will send AFTER you ship? I bet if you really try hard, he would offer you the Brooklyn Bridge or some ocean front property in Nebraska instead of the money order If he's serious about paying, tell him to try Bidpay. I see red flags on this one. Stand your ground and don't fall for his line of b.s.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

If someone is totally new to the online auction expierence they may think that that is the way things are sometimes done. The new buyer is reluctant to part with his $700 money order and fears losing it because of all of the bad press that ebay constantly receives. It sounds like this newbie is NOT ready to take the plunge into online buying at ebay.

edited to add the forgotten NOT in the following sentence:

This buyer opened the account 2 years ago.
He only had "1" for feedback so he probably only bought 1 or 2 items during that time.

I actually did that once. Shipped before payment, that is. This was pre-eBay.

I had a group of Clarice Cliff Bizarre Ware plates that was not selling too well here in the U.S. (Should have hung on to them a couple more years...) Anyway, I get an inquiry from a woman in England who wants to buy one, but she wants to see the plate first.

No way, says I. That's what pictures are for.

She continues polite but persistent. So I discussed it with an old antiquing buddy, and he said, why not take a chance? She seems otherwise reasonable.

So I shipped it, she loved it and paid me promptly.

It turned out well this one time, but I would never do this with an eBay bidder...that's an entirely different kettle of finny creatures.

How about suggesting that your buyer use escrow services?

How about the buyer pays up first, then will ship. Make sure you have tracking and a signature on this kind of $$$ amount.

Hello
I think from my experience of selling hi end items I would first look to see where I am at on this lot. First listing of this lot? Look at lot hit rate. How many bids? How much did I have in this item? Can I get more like type if I want to, for old "my buy" price? What is my FB#? How many non-atta boy (girls) do I have? How long have I been on Ebay? (Some of this buyer can see if he wishes to.) Then I would contact buyer, point out that this is an auction. He/she bid, he won. He pays you ship like any other transaction he does. Explain your return policy if RECIEVED BACK AS SHIPPED. Explain you understand his concern however he did bid, prior to discussing any details. Be friendly but firm and move on. If anything goes the least bit wrong you will likly get a neg. Consider that as well. Good luck

My feelings on this is High end or Low end sale doesn't matter ....money in hand or you don't get the item.If this buyer doesn't trust a seller he doesn't need to be bidding on e-bay.

According to a few of my bidders, lots of
sellers do this. They tell me that there
are sellers who ship right after a PayPal
arrives. I can't believe this, but they
insist that it happens. Personally, I
transfer the money to my linked checking
account and then on to a non-linked account
so that PayPal can't take it back, then I
ship. The silly things bidders try to get
you to believe! :^)

Seriously, anyone who ships before they have
the money in hand gets what they deserve!

I've seen a few sellers who say they'll do so for buyers with feedback above
<whatever>, mostly with fairly low-priced stuff--Marie's CDs is one. My guess would be that those sellers don't have a disproportionately high percentage of deadbeats or they wouldn't do business that way.

A $700 item, though...no, shipping before payment is received just doesn't seem prudent.

He may have been serious though. I'd say 98% of the sellers ship immediately after receiving PP payment.

The poster in another thread that reads much of the feedback given by a seller before bidding is in a very tiny minority as well but it seems like she was certain most people do the same thing as her. Who knows?
