I never had a problem with PayPal and have no complaints with them. I am confused however about the protection I will receive from PayPal, as a buyer, using my American Express card.
I buy and sell fairly high end antiques on ebay and a typical sale can range into the thousands of dollars. If I buy an item and it’s not as described, or I’m merely dissatisfied with it (not likely), or it arrives damaged, or doesn’t arrive at all, what protection do I have?
Is it true that different credit cards offer different levels of buyer protection through PayPal (with American Express supposedly the worst)? Further does my protection vary with my damage: ranging from just not liking the item to never receiving it? Would I be better off using a different credit if I use PayPal?
These are obviously last resort questions since I always buy shipping insurance and communicate profusely with the dealers I buy from. PayPal’s terms don’t really address these specific questions though and I don’t want to find out I’m not covered after it’s too late.

from what i understand,paypal does not accept corporate american express card ,i think one reason is that people get layoff from their job and still use the card and the employer refuses to honor.
personal american express card is treated by paypal no different than master charge or visa/
if you feel amex offers better protection,you are better off using amex outside paypal if the seller has means of accepting amex transaction.
most high end antique sellers on ebay have brick and mortar stores and accept all forms of credit cards unless it is someone great aunt who is selling her heirloom tiffany dragonfly lamp!!

My understanding is that Visa/MC give full chargeback rights.
Amex and Discover give NO chargeback rights - using the argument that Paypal, as the merchant of record, did what they were supposed to do in transferring the $ to the seller - if the seller doesn't perform you've got a problem with THEM and that's the end of that.
