Anybody have any experiences in buying direct from India? There's a widget that I want to buy and from looking online I see that I can get it at WAY less than half the US cost buying it directly from India, where it is manufactured for export to the US.

Or is India where they take your money and run and you never see your widgets.

if you are buying individual piece, air shipping is costly coming from asia, also if you dont like it,do you want to return it back to india?/

I'm only buying one although it's $2500. US
and no, it's not a computer.

And it would be very cheap to airmail, they quote $10.00 to airmail.

They are requesting a Wire Transfer for payment.

I have done business with a few companies from India - WME Conner and Flying Elephants mainly - and found them to be very reliable. But I did purchase containers, or portions thereof - and there wasn't any "return policy"...I was allowed a certain percentage of the invoice as a "damage allowance".

You may want to go to a site concerning Indian commerce and check on the company before buying.

is it jewelry??precious stone such as ruby ,saphire??
for business to business transactions, indian has a law which said indian merchant cannot ship until fund is deposited in indian bank, this is to prevent flight of capital.
but it does not protect you the buyer.
importer usually have letter of credit with bank and bank would not release fund until goods arrive.
but i am not aware of any protection for retail customer.

will check on the India commerce.
The wire transfer is through HSBC bank and the address the merchant gave me is the same as the one listed under the HSBC website.

No, I would not be returning the widget.

that just say he has an account with HSBC.
Is it a branch of HSBC in india??
for that kind of money, you may want to call him during indian office hour and see how they answer the phone and what he has to say??
you dont really have any protection, this is a risk and reward scenario,50% less than what you would pay in usa,you bear the risk of losing it all!!

I've dealt with one Indian company that had a physical location in New York. My experience was fine.

You could ask them if they exhibit at any U.S. trade shows. If they do, the organizers of those shows might have references from them, or at least be able to tell you how long they've been exhibiting. I'm not sure of the etiquette involved in requesting references directly from the merchants.

indians speak fluent english,it is the accent which is hard to understand.
if it is something which is made of material abundant in india and we all know indian labor is cheap, there is no reason to scam you if this is a legitimate business.

It is a VERY legitimate widget, and the companies that sell them are brand name companies here in the US, but by the time things get to us, the price has been tripled or quadrupled. The manufacturers web sites themselves tell you they are based and made in India.

I buy cigarettes from Russia, have for about 2 years. They are half the price they are here in the US.

is the HSBC branch in india??
talk to your local banker and see if there is anything they can do for you.
bank letter of credit serves as a protection for both parties

Yes, the HSBC address that the site quotes matches the one the HSBC bank itself has listed.

Couldn't find anything on the commerce pages under google.

That's a good idea to check with my bank to see if there's any protection.

It's a $2000. widget there and a $6000 widget here in the US. Pretty hefty savings.

Glass - why are you buying cigarrettes from Russia for the savings whe you can them from Mexico for even less? You can purchase every American brand from the for under $2.00 a pack and the shipping is much less.

hey don't leave me hanging! what's the url for Mexico?

although, I don't know why it is - but the menthols I get from Russia are much fresher and better tasting than the ones here in the states.

I haven't checked online in a while but there are some here at http://www.tobacco-online.net/index.html that are even cheaper than the ones I've been buying PLUS free shipping! Gee. These are $14.25 per carton when you buy 6, which is what I do anyway.

(still searching....)

Buy your cigarettes from the Seneca indians. I smoked Salems for many years, the Senecas make menthol and regular smokes for $14.95 a carton! They also sell brand name smokes at bargain prices. And they always send a lollipop with your order. The web address is www.senecas.com.

ewh...they have them for $194.70 versus $85.50 (plus that free shipping) for six cartons.

I like my link better and my bank gives out free lollipops.

Yeah, but when you buy from the Senecas the money stays in the U.S.

They are MADE in the USA and exported overseas. I still support the American workers, all I don't support are the taxes on them.

In our haste to acquire more carcinogens, aren't we forgetting something here?

What about DUTY on the widget?

Have you checked with the Customs Service? On some items there is 100% duty. Could be why it's so pricey here in the States.

Will you need an IMPORT LICENSE? Better check.

Try this for good prices on cigarettes. Some native made are just 10.50 a carton. If you order 4 cartons it's 42.00 postage included. They ship priority.
