I have a really picky bidder that is returning his item to me. When this is done,
should I refund the shipping cost that he paid to send it back to me? Or should I just refund the amount of the item and the shipping to him?

Refund him the amount of the item minus the E-bay fees and minus the shipping charge to ship it to him. Unless in your austions TOS you say you will refund the entire amount

I agree. In my TOS I state that an item can be refunded for any reason for a refund less shipping and any non-refundable auction related fees. It doesn't happen often but when someone does ask to send something back, I email them telling them I'm sorry that they weren't pleased and as per my stated return policy the item can be returned for a refund less the shipping and any non-refundable auction related fees. That includes the PP/BP fees if one of those was used for payment. I ususally ask if my description had been sufficient or if their was possible anything I could have done better to prevent them from being disappointed. Depending on their answer, I might decide to return their postage too.
