Is USPS First Class Mail S L O W or what?

It took 10 DAYS for a CD in a bubble mailer to get from New Jersey to Wisconsin!

Are First Class "packages" being handled differently than letters?

The Seller who sold me this said this is what he is seeing - First Class taking 1 to 2 and even 3 WEEKS for Buyers to receive their items.

How come I feel that the increase in rates in July won't improve this situation.

It's as if the USPS wants to force everyone to pay $$$ for Priority Mail.

I thought this Seller was just giving me lip service when he kept saying "The CD is in the mail" to my inquiries. I had no idea regular mail delivery continues to be so erratic. This isn't Christmas, we don't have any Anthrax or mailbox pipe bombs scares going on now, so what's the problem now?

I opt for First Class over Priority Mail on low weight items both as a Buyer and a Seller. I'm concerned that the erratic delivery service the USPS provides will make ebayers leary. When the ease of buying on ebay is overshadowed by "will it get here", when this "venue" becomes more work than fun, then I, for one, will choose to shop in B&M stores and leave the Internet behind.

This shipping thing is our Weakest Link.

Was the CD a personal CD or one that had to be mailed from another source. I have no problems with 1st class mail, mine usually get there in 2-3 days.

I received one CD each from Amazon and CDNow in recent weeks. Both companies ship First Class, and both CDs arrived within 4 days of getting their notification-of-shipping messages.

Did you check the postmark to verify that they shipped it when they claimed? The package wasn't stamped "Media" by any chance, was it? I hate to ask, but some sellers are known to be not entirely truthful when it comes to shipping.

This is exactly why my TOS states:

Please Read The Small Print.
** Shipping costs will be calculated based on destination and weight.

Merchandise is shipped NLT the day after payment is received.
**The type shipment used is stated in the auction text. Effective 5/30/02 I will ship
exclusively by UPS due to USPS postal increases. The USPS increases are exorbitant and
due to the weight of the items I sell it's no longer feasible for me to use their services.
I have a daily UPS pick up account and will combine shipping on multiple auction wins on
auctions won on the same day only. There is a $1.00 shipping & handling fee to help
defray the cost of shipping materials. All items are shipped from zip code 36206. Items
not paid for within ten days will be relisted. .
INSURANCE: Insurance is free on UPS shipping charges up to $100.
Tracking of your UPS package is also free.

All Email will be answered in a timely manner.

I just received a small, firt-class-size item, shipped media mail, two days after it was sent. Amazing!

Regular first class things seem to be arriving in 2-4 days for me as well.

I can't use UPS for most of my items because they are usually well under a pound and the price to ship them would be exhorbitant. To say nothing of the fact that I can drop them in any mailbox in town, rather than making a special trip to the UPS customer desk.

The mailer was postmarked May 13th, First Class, from the Seller's home town. I received it yesterday, 5-24. He had it weighed at the counter as it had the exact postage sticker the clerk puts on.

I'm thinking this must be New Jersey or his PO related. Maybe they have to ship this stuff to be scanned first, after the Anthrax cases last year in NJ?

If I were him, I would find a different PO to use.

I don't know for certain, but it is possible that the USPS is still rerouting some of the NJ mail to the irradiation facility in Iowa. The latest studies have shown that the anthrax could be transmitted with as few as 10 to 100 microbes on an envelope, which is now how they think that poor old lady in Connecticut got it just by having some of her mail come in contact with an infected piece (or even several degrees beyond).

If this is the case, then it won't be so simple for him to just change post office - it was an entire distribution center that was affected. If he lives in the middle of the area that feeds into that distribution center, then it may be impractical for him to get his mail to ship through a neighboring distribution center.
