Now I'm on my broom. I simply don't understand why ebay can't set up their message boards by topic, as AW does here.
A few times in the last year I've posted sincere questions on those boards about specific items. Twice I've gotten helpful answers. The other times I've encountered this social group that seems to know each other well and sort of ignores the rest of us trying to get some answers.
Guy A logs on, says good morning to everyone, then about 12 others have to log on and say good morning to him and ask what he had for breakfast. And what is he going to do the rest of the day. And they talk about their children's grades. Then they get a joke from an oldtimer. In the meantime, a few hardy desperate souls are trying to get in there with a question. Ad nauseum.
It clogs up the boards. I wish they'd go to the chat boards and clog those up instead. I had always thought the message boards were for genuine Q & A. If ebay set them up as they are here, some of the useless chatter would disappear.
After a question is actually asked, one needs to lurk on that board or check back laboriously to find answers among all the chittering.
I know I sound mean-spirited, but it's exasperating. Ebay probably meant well when they started those boards, but it doesn't work so well for most of us, I think. If I'm wrong, I will stand corrected.

I agree with you 100%. And when you do finally get an answer, they all chime in on your thread to show you how well the get along with each other.
There is one board (won't name names) that I have gone to for technical advice 2 or 3 times. Things I have really been stumped on. This board has a seasoned veteran who they all love because he/she answers every post with helpful advice. And they're always singing praises and giving thanks to this person for all the time they devote to the board.
The only problem is, the advice stinks. This person is so busy answering everyone who posts, that he/she rarely gives any thought to the question. Then, no on else responds because the answer God/Godess has already spoken and they're back to patting him/her on the shoulder.
It's very annoying. The AW board has helped so much more. There is no comparision.

doormat,
I agree. Here you can get good answers on not just one, but many topics.

I think it shows in the design interface of the AW Message Board that a lot of thought was put into it. This is the only message board I know of that will e-mail you the contents of the new post. Pretty nifty...

I also agree.........I think in one of my messages on here I referred to it as the "high school click" that I thought we had all outgrown! They will definitely let you know that you are the outsider!

Sellers volunteer their time for free to answer eBay-related questions. It's certainly a lot cheaper than hiring employees answer questions.

When I first started selling on eBay I thought eBay boards were all that was available. After all, you sell there, so you figure you go to their boards for help. What a joke. I was so happy to find AW. I was ready to give up, but came here and got the help I needed without feeling like I was completely stupid.

chococake - I agree! Before I started selling I was trying to find the answer to a question. I went there because I didn't know about any others. There were these few on there talking about what kind of coffee they were having and "have you tried this kind?" and "oh my god that sounds great!" Well I just scooted right out. Took me a while to find this one and it is great. I've never been treated like an interloper. Just good honest answers. Plus you don't have to wait till everyone finishes talking about the merits of the coffee they are having. I LOVE this board and feel like I belong here. THANKS to you all!!

I just visited another message board to see if it had any real "substance". Guess what, they were discussing cinnamon rolls and coffee!
Excuse me while I go get a donut.

alwaysbroke - I just went to the one I was talking about. The first 3 were "good morning" then "well good morning all I see everyone is here". Oh and "Sharon is having a birthday and just happens to be sharing with "mom" so happy birthday! to each from each one!
At least on here if it is a "fun" thread you can tell by the title and skip it if you wish. Oh well it was funny and I started my day out in a good mood.
Now back to my regular black coffee.

When I go to Ebay chat with a serious question, I usualy end up coming here for the answer. I wonder if any of those people actualy sell anything, as I do not know when they would have time to list and spend so much time telling what they had for breakfast.
the best thing about AW is the REAL answers. The second best thing is, if I ask a question and have to run out, I know I can find the answer when I get back. It is not ost in all that garbage.

I am in agreement with the others. I don't go int the message boards because of what people call chit chat. I went into the jewelry board to ask a question. I asked it and lo and behold no answer as they were all talking about what was on TV the night before. Those boards are useless and that was my first and last time I went in there. I sometimes read the wanted board but the rest of them I stay away. With eBay as strict as they are with their auctions their message boards are running rampant with crap about nothing. I doubt ebay will do nothing about.

Way back when I posted a question on eBay, no answer, so I asked is anyone here?
Answer was: mcjane, ever get the feeling your talking to yourself.
So much for eBay message board, never even looked at it again.
