I am in UK. My brother runs a UK Freight Airline. Unable to get Insurance cover so his flights will be grounded. A friends son works in SF and lost his job today. The flights that my sister in law uses to visit her son in NYC no longer exist.

It is not a meltdown at all! Changing times need changing ways. I am so sorry that these things happened and you were associated with all of them. But meltdown is not going to happen. The USA prides its'self on freedom and those freedoms do not come cheaply. When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and I stand behind our Government, our Troops, our people and all peoples and countries that believe in a democratic way of life. We will surrmount this, together, with our allies, strong and sure, to continue what our fathers and forefathers laid down their lives for. Freedoms!!

I really do not wish to get into arguments. Please come back to me in two months time, and tell me how many US Airlines are not in Chapter 11. I understand that feelings are running high on both sides of the "Pond". All I can tell you is that there is a Meltdown in the UK economy.

Well then! I am sure our friends in the UK will bail us out?
Don't I remember something like the US Bundles for Britain?
And, if I can remember this correctly, you had an American-British Prime Minister once. Can you remember what he said about the Battle of Britain? Well, he spoke for us!

ummm....probably not as many as you think as the government just ok'd funds for them....and if the air marshalls do start riding - flights will increase again.

Personally, I will keep flying as I feel that when God calls you, it doesn't matter if you're on the ground or in the air....you're going.

Furthermore, most Americans will not let terroristic attacks freeze us in our homes.

Greetings from UK> That is an unfair thing to say because you, as we are, are already aware that with the closings of the airports, the Airlines lost Millions. We all know that from the same news reports that you see, so you are not saying anything that is news. They are already asking for bailouts due to falling revenues and if that does not happen, it would take about your time frame for them to be in Chapter 11. So you are just predicting something that would be likely to happen anyway if they are not helped financially. No brainer....sorry.....

Edited to add> I am not up on the economy of your country and if that is the case, I am truly sorry for that. Time to dig in and list!!

THE FACTS

The Pentagon is ordering combat aircraft to start moving to bases in the Persian Gulf Area, in what appears to be the first concrete sign of preparations for a military response to last week's terrorist attack.

NOTHING HAS STARTED YET! BUT WE ARE GETTING READY.

The U.S. will also begin moving at least 100 aircraft to "forward areas" in the Persian Gulf region as soon as Thursday. This is according to sources at CNN.

The orders for the major deployment have been issued and the operation has tentatively been named "Infinite Justice," according to these sources.

Word of the deployment order comes from a senior defense official, who added that teams of Air Force air controllers would be on the move first. They'll coordinate the re-fueling of the fighters and bombers as they move from the U.S. to the Gulf region.

Taking to the air will be attack aircraft, including F-15E Strike Eagles, F-16s and B-1 bombers. Also needed are support planes such as AWACs and other aircraft that can track objects and vehicles on the ground and U2 aircraft that can provide military surveillance.

ABCnews.com reported that U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld signed an order today deploying forces for possible military action to root out Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda terrorist organization from Afghanistan, sources in the Pentagon said.

The order is for tankers and support aircraft to move into positions overseas first, followed by fighters and bombers, the sources said.

Rumsfeld signed the order this morning, authorizing "hundreds of aircraft" to be sent to overseas locations already used by the U.S. military in the Persian Gulf, Britain's Diego Garcia island in the Indian Ocean, and the entire region.

The order does not include ground troops at this time.

The announcement of today does not mean we are in a melt down of any kind. Yes companies are letting people go as a means of survival right now. But that is the key, to survive. Some companies may fall but this is America. We are strong and we will survive.

There is no need to be to spread rumors of doom. Sure we are in uncertain times but look at our country's history during WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and Desert Storm. We'll survive.

The things that do not break us only make us stronger.

Health & happiness

Hey! Greetings -

I am a Brit living in the U.S. Did you know that 300 Brits were killed in the attack? And 100 Aussies?

I am an old Brit - I was a child in WWII England, thrown in an Anderson shelter when the Nazis bombed us. When London was a mass of rubble all over. When the Germans machine gunned civilians for sport during air raids.

During all of this, we kept "keeping on" as best we could. I remember how proud and brave the British people were, and how King George and Queen Elizabeth (the "Queen Mum" did not hide, visited the people who were "bombed out" with words of encouragement.

I am ashamed of you - how could you be so - well, despairing and gutless?

What is a lost job, lost money on stocks, compared to the loss of human life?

And "good times" can be had whenever good and brave people come together, whatever country they call home.

A quote from the USA Ambassador to UK. "The British seem to know better than anyone what this feels like. Maybe it's because you've already been through it with the IRA and World War 11"

We will fight on the beach, we will fight in the hedgerows, we will never give up! Never!

Go read Winnie's speeches again and then come back and tell us we are in a meltdown! NEVER!
PS
And thanks to the Canadians and Brits and Aussies who are here with us in Ground Hero!
Lets end it here, folks, before we get carried away.

This thing with the airlines is a giant crock. Just a couple of months ago, these big airlines were trying to buy off smaller ones. Here in the northwest suburbs of Illinois, we have been hearing high and low year after year that we desperately need to expand O'Hare Airport (funny it was named for a combat pilot), with government and big business singing duets that all is lost without a bigger airport and more flights.

Now some scummy little terrorists with a few knives gets the airline CEOs running and crying to big mommy government's apron and purse while poking their brothers and sisters (airline employees)in the eye. They somehow need a lot more money while they cut way back on service.

If you can't figure out that a lot of this whiney wet diaper stuff is a big scam, I will gladly sell you two big skyscraper towers in lower Manhattan's financial district for a very low price.

Greetings,

Your link does not work - I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and tried to access your link, my browser tells me there is no such site.

Come on, we are not going to "wail and moan" without knowing what it is all about.

Has anyone else accessed this site?

What does this have to do with the auctions. There are enough doomsayers out there EVERYWHERE. For the USA to remain strong we need to get back to business. I plan to go full swing at listing auctions this week. I don't mean to be rude but we have enough of our own negative Americans we didn't need negative vibes from the UK Also.

Live in a third world country where people are dying all around you from starvation where you children have no hope etc. . .

This crisis will weed out the weak airlines and help the better ones grow stronger safer better. It has be clear that the airline industry needing a cleaning out for years. It is sad very sad the way it is happening.

However this has nothing nada zip zlich Not a darn thing to do with auctions and NOTHING to do with Ebay so take it somewhere else.
