If they told you you can't "hot link" (What you do when you use a server to display a picture from another site, like eBay) I would look for other server space.
You might be pulling the pictures out of you cache, and that's why they come and go on yur machine, but from someone else's machine, they wouldn't show at all.

If I recall sites like Earthlink don't allow hosting of auction pics. You could very well find yourself pictureless one day.

Hello,
I have Earthlink, but don't use them for photos on eBay. If you have to much traffic (to many looks) they will shut down your site until next month, that is why it won't work. You can hotlink, just not very many looks or you will go over your limit. This is what I understand. Use this link to view your quotas http://help.earthlink.net/websupport/member/quota.html (you'll have to paste it out)
They just want everyone to buy one of their overprices sites. I bought a domain name from Easyspace one year ago and have it hosted for $9.99 a month from Webintellects. It is 25 mb with unlimited traffic. Have a nice night.

I use Earthlink for my photos, but I've never gone over my quota so I've never had any problems. However, yesterday there was a MAJOR problem with Earthlink web hosting nationwide. All their sites were down. Even if you tried to pull up http://home.earthlink.net you got a page not found error. It was corrected pretty quickly though, as is usually the case when EL has a problem. Not sure if it was tied to this new virus that is going around hitting servers or not. Go to the Support page on EL and then scroll down the left side until you reach the portion about websites and check your Urchin Report. Really cool; will tell you the traffic, usage, hits, visits, etc and your usage. I think we are allowed 750MB of traffic per month.

Earthlink websites are down again today. Second time this week. I've NEVER had problems with them before and I've been using them for years. Their customer support and tech phones have waiting times up to 24 MINUTES so I feel this is a nationwide problem.

The rep that told you that you couldn't use the space for ebay was wrong.
There was a problem and the rep, not knowing what else to say, assumed that you were shut down for doing "business" with you web space. EL encourages customers to use the space for ebay.
I work for them and know the policy and have been using myself for ebay for a year.
EL doesnt go looking for people breaking the rules. Dont have the manpower. But they will follow up on complaints (hate sites etc) and will give you a proplem if you go over you 10mb limit OR the traffic is beyond the allowed limits. I have seen high traffic sites shut down, but that is for a large photo with 1000s of hits.

I've used Earthlink for two years now, and haven't had a bit of trouble with them. Only once I went over my traffic limit, and they didn't shut me down or anything, although they did bill me a couple of dollars extra. No biggie. They even e-mailed me in advance to let me know I was close to the limit, and then e-mailed again when I went over the limit.
Lately I've been using other webspace for the vast majority of my photos, though, because I *would* be over my traffic limit on Earthlink now. (I'm running many more auctions than I used to, plus my sister and stepfather also use my webspace for their auction photos.)
Edited to add: The other webspace that I use isn't free. It's $25 a month, which sounds expensive but they also host my website and provide other services too.

Earthlink web hosting was down again for awhile today. I'm wondering if their website servers got hit with that new virus? If you do use them, be sure you crop your photos and then optimize them so they are not huge photos. Unless you are doing hundreds of auctions a month you should be able to stay below your allotment.
