Hey Everyone--
I have been thinking about the best days of the week to list on eBay. To me, the weekends are terrible, and it seems like Monday is a great night. Can I get some of your opinions on this?
What about the time of day? Is it always at night? And what time? I'd appreciate any of your opinions.

I was posting here and there when I first started selling, then realized I actually got better results when I had a plan. Once I had plan, the numbers of repeat customers started growing. Bidders got accustomed to when my auctions started and stopped - and checked my auctions accordingly.
For me, Sunday night ending auctions are usually great. That way bidders have had all week and then the entire weekend to look at auctions. I try to start and stop auctions about 7 or 8pm to account for the time changes.
I can run a 7 day auction from Sunday to Sunday; a 5 day auction from Tuesday to Sunday; or a 3 day auction from Thursday to Sunday - and surprisingly get the same results! The weekends work for me.
I also try to post on other nights except for Fridays. That is the worst night I can end an auction.
However the best times for me(7 day auc)are Sundays, Mondays, Wenesdays, and every now and then I try a daytime auction - but nights seem to be better.

Folks-- I have been keeping statistics on my auctions since January 1998. Admittedly my data is for a narrow category (Books, mostly Science Fiction and Children's Series) but still it provides some insight... look at the AboutMe page for UserID "kenzy" for details, or go to this URL:

Sunday night endings used to be very good but now it seems that ebay goes on overload and either slows down or goes down.
Better maybe that your ad runs thru Sunday and that goes into the last day which everybody checks but then comes off on Monday.
I used to put ads on at odd hours and now try to put them on days at a time when the east coast and west coast are both up. Nights seem too busy.
Not sure this helps or not. Maybe by them coming off at weird hours more people put in their higher proxies. I do know that regular hours will give you a chance for more last minute snipers.

I run 10 day auctions from Wednesday through Saturday. I almost never run auctions less than 10 days when I found out that 7 & 5 day auctions do not show up on the last pages of a category in the right order that they are ending. If I run a shorter auction it could be listed in the middle pages and never be seen by bidders looking at the auctions that are ending by clicking on the last pages. Only if the bidder clicks on "auctions ending today or going, gone" will they see the auction.

Thanks, Karen, that's an important piece of information. I click on the last pages in the category expecting to see everything coming off that day. May make me always do 10 days as I am currently but prefer 7 days to hold their interest.

WOW i'm impressed with all of you!! I feel lucky just to have the time to get these darn auctions on line, let alone think about when they open and close. Now I'm actually going to have to pay attention to what I'm doing to see what works the best!! All your suggestions make sense, but what about the new sniper software that some people are using?! The hardcore e-buyers don't have to sit at the 'puter to get the last bid in at the exact moment of closing or they get the min. bid on some auctions no one has bid on. Great concept for some, lousy for others!! Take care all and good luck!

We used to use 10 day auctions and found that 7 day auctions worked better for both getting bids and prompter payment. Not sure why. Maybe people bid early on 10 day auctions then forgot about them or changed thier minds.
We prefer to have out auctions end Sunday thru Wednesday. People have the weekend on thier minds Thurs thru Sat.
As for time of day, usually anywhere from 9pm to 11pm PST. That does make it a little tough sometimes for East Coast bidders but you have to draw the line somewhere.

I made a scheduling mistake and had several auctions end on a Friday evening. I was suprised at what a great response I had.
I'm afraid to end on Sunday or Monday because eBay seems to go down most often on those days.
