My firewall keeps this netbios from entering my computer but they keep trying and I am getting angry. It is daily 3 to 10 times a day that they try. Anyone else have this problem?? Anyone know who these sneaks are??
What are they after??
Every time they try I have to stop what I am doing and ok my firewall so I can continue to work. I want to be aware of who is trying violate my computer without my permission.
I have a few others that are trying to access my computer but most of them I at least know who they are. None are as habitual as netbios.
I have tried to open up netbios.net and get the page is under contruction.

Hi CL2Cutie: I have a firewall by zonealarm.
It will tell me every time someone tries to
access my computer. As I was writing the last line the zonealarm came on with a message. The firewall has blocked internet access to your computer (TCP PORT 1024) from 129.236.10.101 Telnet. Anyone know who telnet is?
This really bothers me that there are so many people invading my privacy. How about you?

NetBios is a network protocol. It transports packets between computers. Telnet Is a communication protocol used on most Network Protocols....

Excuse my ignorance but do they do this to all ebay users? What are the packets? What do they want from my computer? Who would be using Telnet? Is this for spam?

msstone - I have Zone Alarm too and you can use a reverse IP look up to find out who "owns" or whatever they call it that IP address that is trying to access the computer. I looked up the number you gave in your post and it was Lamont Doherty Geological Observatory.
Here is the link I used to look the number up - http://www.1stopwebtools.com/
Just scroll down to Reverse IP look up and enter the number.

I called Bookbinder and left a message I will call him back tomorrow.
Does this strike anyone else as creepy? It
feels like being stalked. Only my home or office is not a safe haven.
What can be done to stop this from happening besides firewalls?

That is what firewalls are for. If you do not use a home network, go to network properties and make sure sharing (files AND printers) is not enabled. If you have a cable modem or DSL I would even go further and invest $150 in a HARDWARE firewall such as the Linksys model router. Then you will be totally immune. Much of this is caused by improper network settings, but some is malicious. Welcome to the internet.
