This is new to me and I don't want to get into a trap. Had an auction that ended in August. The auction clearly stated that transaction must be completed within 10 days. The high bidder was one who have dealt with on several occassions and is known for his excuses..and at one time owed me for 22 items because he was always going to pay when the next one ended. (But he didn't took better that three months to collect and that is why I added the line about completing auction within 10 days.) This person swore I would have my money by Sept. 1st. No money.
Filed with safeharbour and no response. September the 7th I relisted the item. On the 7th after item was posted, I receive an urgent e-mail asking if I had sent the item or received his check note this after no response to nfb. At that time, I sent him a letter stating that I was not paid as per terms of auction and asked that he refrain from bidding on my items in the future. CC to Safeharbour of which he did not respond but they did (filed). Item has now sold again to new buyer. Thank goodness! Last night I filed for final value credit for previous auction. Now I open my e-mail this morning, and I have money by Paypal.
So Now What???

Send the money back to him via Paypal, tell him he's missed his payment deadline and that the item has been sold to another party. If he resend the money, just bounce it back to him again.

Also scan the check and envelope and email the scan to him, noting the postmark date and telling him you're returning his check. (I just ran into this last week - I returned it to him Certified/RRR just so I'd have a record.)

But Hart if I send him money by Paypal and then he reclaims the money that he orginally sent, I could be charged back and he gets money twice...Right?
I did not open the envelope he sent, just took a copy for my records and it is on my table to take to post office to refuse and return. (Wrote return to sender and dropped in box, Post Office returned to me again!)

Paypal. . .
Can I cancel a payment that I've already sent to someone?
You can cancel a payment if the recipient has not signed up for PayPal in the meantime and collected the money. To cancel a payment, select the History subtab, find the transaction you would like to cancel and click on the word "Unclaimed" in the status column. Click the "Cancel Payment" button and then click it again on the confirmation page.
Does this mean as long as I leave the money the money in my Paypal account, he may reclaim it?
The above name person had done this once before where he paid and I believe he reclaimed it.

You are missing soemthing in that explanation. You can cancel a payment if the recipient does not have a paypal account and hasn't signed up for one since you made the payment. If the recipient has a pp account, the second you hit "send" it's too late to reclaim. Someone accidentally paid $1015.00 instead of 10.15 a few weeks ago. He noticed it as he hit "send." He had to jump through hoops to get his money back (if he ever did - we never heard the end of that.)
