In August I had an auction end. Immediately sent bidder the EOA email. On 8/31 I received an envelope that was OPENED - and appears to had never been sealed. Inside was the print-out of my EOA email, and a note saying "Money order enclosed".

Well, the MO was NOT enclosed. I immediately notified the buyer that the envelope was completely open, appeared to have never been sealed, and the MO was not inside, but my EOA email WAS. I told her she could have the money order tracked to see if it was ever cashed by someone else, etc.

No reply.

Since then, I've emailed her 4 TIMES asking her about this and to please respond and she has not responded whatsoever.

She has 0 feedback and just registered with ebay the beginning of August.

Does this sound like she is trying to pull something over on me? Or does it sound like the MO was stolen or lost in the mail? Had she responded I would have thought the MO was lost in the mail but now I'm really beginning to wonder......

Then again it is totally reasonable too that the buyer had a lot of mail to send on the same day and forgot to put the money order in the envelope at all.

Stranger things happen. this could be a trick or it could be a mistake if you try to send the buyer email with ebays send this auction to a friend service and still get no reply maybe you need to file NPB to get there attention

This auction certinly ended long enough ago to require this.

dman:

In my last email to her, I told her if I didn't hear from her within a few more days I was going to start the NPB & FVF credit process.. hoping that would get her attention.. but no word yet. Looks like I will be filing the NPB alert very shortly...

Just the other day I mailed my car insurance payment and when I got home from th post office I realized the money order was still in my purse- I never actually put it in the envelope. It happens.

And I'm sure, cagrrl, that as soon as you noticed your error, you notified the intended recipient or sent out your payment promptly.

valerie47's bidder hasn't responded to 4 emails that she's sent during the past 2 weeks. Doesn't look like "oops, I goofed" to me. Or maybe bidder's just so mortified at her mistake she can't bear to contact the seller. Uh-huh.

Move on with this one, valerie. You've waited long enough for your money. File an NPB, notify the bidder the NPB is merely a formality and that you've waited long enough without a response and that you're offering the item to another bidder. Then ask her NOT to bid on any future auctions and cc Safeharbor, and relist the item, and get your FVF on the first go-round.

This past summer I received an unsealed envelope that arrived without a stamp or cancellation. Bidder lived across country.

I decided to sit on it a few days. A new envelope had arrived with a MO.

Apparently the bidder was moving from her dorm back to her parents and had the first envelope sent during the move accidentally.

The best thing to do is not to assume. I recommend picking up the phone. Many seller's refuse to do this, but I don't see why. I have solved many problems this way, and have very few deadbeats because of it.

Hmmm . . . as a Seller, my experince calling up late-payers has been the opposite. Only once has a telephone call actually produced results. The rest lied to my face right then and there. That's why I almost never telephone a late-payer.

Supprizingly, just pulling their Contact Info has produced better results than telephoning them. I guess everyone's experiences are different.

Valerie,
To me the note you got "money order enclosed"
was a dead givaway.
It sounds like a scam to me.
How many letters with MO's have you ever received that had that statement in it?
For me....NONE!
Beware and procede with caution. Ask for a copy of the MO receipt.
DO NOT send item till you have additional froof of payment.
I only say this because this whole thing smells fishy to me.
Good Luck in what ever you decide to do.

Packer, while I do agree the whole thing smells questionable, as a buyer I often will print out the EOA and write on it: Hi, enclosed is my check for $XX.XX for the wooden widget. My mailing address is....

Ya never know, but I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

Well, technically, you cannot 'enclose' a money order with any letter. You can, however, 'attach' it to your letter.

(sorry folks - it's really early )

Valerie. Run a search on the buyers completed auctions. If she's won quite a few auctions and has no feedback that's a red flag. Email some of the sellers and see if they've had trouble collecting payment. File for FVF immediately.

The bid amount was less than $3 - a telephone call would not be worth it in this case.

The person bid on 4 other items since my auction but didn't win any of them - so there's no way I can contact any other sellers.

I will just file the NPB and FVF credits. I just can't imagine receiving an email saying the MO was not enclosed and then not responding to the seller after 4 attempts.

Plus, if I had sent a money order on 8/31 and still hadn't received my item, I'd be contacting the seller to find out where my item was. Not the case with this buyer!

Has she been bidding during the time you've been trying to contact her? If not she may be on vacation or away from email.

enclose : 1. to shut in all around; hem in; fence in; surround 2. to insert in an envelope, wrapper, etc. often along with something else 3. to contain

...from Webster's New World Dictionary

(it's getting later- )

UPDATE.....

This customer never again contacted me. Never responded to my several emails or to ebay's "non-paying bidder alert".

I just filed for the FVF credit for this item.

She has since then bid on one other item that ended on 9/2 but still has 0 feedback.

About to be (-1)!
