I recently won an auction and paid promptly (the now dreaded Paypal). The seller sent off the package promptly as well. It arrived yesterday. The product is fine but the box it came in is pretty crushed. It was basically put in a cardboard box that hugged its surface and sent off. The box is not really part of the product and so does not really affect it. But I do tend to keep boxes for storage. The postage price included at least $1 for handling as far as I can see (comparing where it is sold elsewhere by websites). I fully intend to leave a POSITIVE, but should I mention packing was a little shoddy? Or am I being anal abou this? BTW when I buy anything from a store I pick the item with a crisp box even if we are talking about a toaster or bread machine?
Your thoughts are welcome and may affect my feedback ......

If you feel that you must... gently word it. Not everyone knows how to package things and even if they do, the post office will try and test it. Sellers who care pack well and those who don't won't get my repeat busness and they might not get positive feedback either.

Shipping is part of what you pay for. It should be done right. If you want to know how that plays on eBay, look at my feedback.

As long as you received the item in shape mentioned in auction description and got it in timely manner just say "Nice Transaction!". When I purchase I am just happy to get the item as described...so I would be happy! If you are a little PO'ed at the seller....might just send very friendly email stating that you arnt happy with the item wrapped the way it was. And although you are leaving a Pos the seller should reconsider how items are packaged for shipping. Just my thoughts.......

Jane -
Let them know that the item is OK, but the packing ALMOST failed to protect it, and suffered serious damage.

Suggest that in the future they use sturdier materials, because they will not always have such good luck.

Yes - If you got off without any damage I would not hurt the seller by telling him in public the packing needs upgraded.
I have recieved suggestions about packing better and have improved the packing even though I only had one item damaged in 300 sales of the same item.
I now spend 50¢ more per package to try to make the shipping safer - but it is not subject to straight cost analysis because I am buying customer confidence and satisfaction which is harder to measure that outright loss.

Thanks for the input, I have dropped her an email telling her how I feel. The item(s) were unlikely to be damaged- (Thighmaster) so I always was inclined to just forget it. But the packaging was sloppy and I personally feel the box is as much part of the product as the contents. I will leave my feedback and not mention this in public (apart from here).

I often wonder also if I should mention the packaging to the seller. Many sellers do not send the items in strong enough outer boxes and even though the item arrives safely sometimes it is a miracle. I recently received some depression glass and the outer weak box was ripped right down the side. I left her positive feedback but I did e-mail her and tell her about the box. She said she would use my letter as testimonial that she uses lots of bubble wrap (inbetween numerous LOL's) and she seemed to entirely miss the fact that the outer box was weak.
