Sorry, but I've been an eBay seller x 1999, and an EO poster x 2000, and, in all that time, I've never gotten an email like this one -- so full of hate and threat...

I can't even conceive of an instance when I might send sumptin like THAT...to anybody...

So, sorry HwaHwa...To me, it was a big deal...

After the worst year of my life; a year that almost did me in, I just did NOT need this NOW...Now, when I'm FINALLY just beginning to get back on my feet...I just didn't need THIS...NOW...

I'm so discombumolated, I can't decide how to react: action? reaction? NO action?

I don't know...

Tom,

Realizing that it's startling to receive something like this - and your reaction, as a human being, is probably in line with most everyone here -- disbelief, anger, fear - and not knowing what type of reaction is acceptable and what you should do next.

You can either shrug it off and move on, not letting it get to you (which it doesn't appear possible right now) -- or you can calmly take action. Remember, you cannot expect to control what people do to you - but you can control how you react to what they do to you...

I think you've probably gone through most of the above feelings already. Now, you need to settle in with some determination that you will FOLLOW THROUGH on what an appropriate reaction is after you've processed all of the above.

And, that is -- doing what others here who have your best interest at heart have suggested.

1) Contact Vendio - call them and be determined to have someone follow through on this for you - investigate its source and turn it over to the appropriate authorities. If they don't - explain that you'll pursue it with the authorities and that you'll start your story, when the local media interviews you, with --- "I talked to the company (Vendio - that's spelled V-E-N-D-I-O-dot com) who I believe is responsible for the platform used to convey this threat... but they wouldn't help me...

I would expect that they will be cooperative - just get names and document the times and what they tell you. In the event they fail to get you what you expect, you'll need all of that to provide to your local police office.

2) Contact Comcast. Look up their internet division - and I'm sure you can probably even locate a phone number for reporting online abuse of their system.

Just as few here would say "Stop being a victim!" to a woman who was just raped -- I'd suggest that we'd say it's important to you and to others that you report it and follow through with the charges.

Don't let the basta*d CONTINUE to make you feel like a victim.

What did I do to piss off my bidders?
That was years ago when Ebay was relatively small-
There was a postal strike in Canada and the Canadian did not get his package in time,it was a $7 dollars glass vase!
The one who said he will fly down to Houston with his lawyer is a Marine and he won a poster from me for his girlfriend,he is pissed he is not getting it on time and he did not like my attitude!
I have been on Ebay over 10 years and you just cant please everyone and cant kowtow to everyone.
We hide behind our keyboard and say what we feel like saying, sometimes temper does flare.
One thing I learn early is this-
most people shop on Ebay because they know they can get something for less and they do so because they like the savings or they just cant afford to pay full price or both.
SO will they really spend time, money and efforts to fly/DRIVE down here with or without their lawyer to teach me a lesson?
NO!!!
So let them say whatever they want, whip your ass,or teach you a lesson, life goes on,who said being a retailer is easy??
Everyday I drive down Westheimer Road and see all the empty strip malls and stores, I am just glad I get to work from home and dont have store rent to pay.
Cyber threats are just a small price to pay!
I would rather have my CYBER ASS whipped than to pay $3k a month rent with no sale!

Lets all stop whining !

Well put hwahwa, but the situation is different. Tom's anonymous coward sent a scary email that was personal, not eBay connected, & contained false statements for no reason other than to frighten or upset Tom.

I would be very upset too.

Hello,

Just a thought on why it looks like the email came from Vendio. You just recently reopened your Vendio storefront, and your storefront has a page to contact you.

http://shop.vendio.com/tomwiii/contact.html

If this person entered that email address as their own, this is how it would have appeared when being sent through the Vendio system.
Unfortunately it makes them anonymous to you in the process.

Im not sure what could be found out if it became a legal matter, so be sure to contact us through the support department if it comes to that.

Regards,
Christopher

This isn't an issue Comcast can solve - the contact apparently came through Vendio's "Contact Seller" form tab on the VD storefront, The sender put in a bogus email address. All the routing information you pull up doesn't mean diddly squat because it just points back to Vendio. I sent Tom a message that way and I could put any email address in the blank that I wanted.

Looks to me like it's up to Vendio to pull the ISP information for that user.

I sent the email to [email protected] after asking them for assistance thru LIVE CHAT...

I've decided that it just cannot be a fellow VD'er...

A few don't exactly hold me in high esteem (& vice versa), but I refuse to even consider that possibility...

After racking my brains (and giving HIS R. HIGHNESS a back scratch), and can only think of TWO folks who I tangled with over past 10 years who MIGHT still be angry with moi:

1) Around 3-4 yrs ago, I signed up for some stoopid "LEARN EBAY" snafu. Many probably remember this guy & his ads, which were full-page & covered in "deals?"

I PayPal'ed him $12 and was supposed to receive a "eBay Starter Kit" that was supposed to have a salable (on eBay) value of $100

Months went by & never got the "kit" nor a REFUND, after exchanging numerous NASTY emails. Finally he told me PP had frozen his account & I could go &*%$ myself before I'd get a refund.

Well, it was the principle of the thing, ya know? Yes, it was ONLY $12, but, it was MY $12, & I was ripped-off!

So, I filed with IFCC and BINGO! He home-town cops paid him a visit, &, within 1 week, that PD had mailed me $12 CASH! Pretty fantastic POLICE DEPT!

#2:
Remember about 18 months ago, some scale competitor STOLE my pics? I really didn't care so much, except that he hot-linked to my pics -- not only stealing my pics, but (WORSE) stealing my bandwidth!

So, if ya remember, I replaced my pics with slightly "risque" humor and turned in the auctions to eBay, who made him close & re-launch the auctions...

But it makes NO sense! We know who these two are, so, if the emails trace back to their towns, it's pretty easy to figure it out...

Well, I'll see what COMCAST recommends...If another comes, or 'FISHY" funniness starts happening, I'll have to contact the JAX PD or the FDLE...

I really just did NOT need this baloney NOW...

I hope vendio can properly invesstigate the situation. This person needs to understand that their actions are not humorous, not entertaining, not clever.
Try not to let it rent too much space in your brain. You're in such a better place now than you were a few months ago, I'd like to see you stay in that place for a while!

Hi Tom & Ralphie

Sorry to hear about all the trouble your having with this email harassment I know it makes you very uneasy, and it's very upsetting just when your getting started again. Like you said, you just finished a year of hell and now this, I would be feeling the same way you do.

I hope your able to find out who is doing this
because this person needs to be stopped.

I'm also sure you are not the only one he is harassing, I'm sure there are others and that also will come out when more is found out about him and checking through his ISP is the only way I see that he can be tracked down, that's if he gave his ISP the right personal information because today you don't need a credit card to sign up for most internet services and especially lots are free.

The free/cheap services are all dialup and the IP address of the phone can usually be traced. Depends on how much the ISP wants to cooperate. They don't have to unless the law is involved.

toni - I agree, Tom is probably not the only one being harassed.

People like this are cowards hiding behind a throwaway email address. In this day and age with homeland security getting up in everyone's business, making threats over the Internet is not a wise thing to do.

Tom,

This person is having way too much fun with this. He or she is most likely reading this post and is thrilled that they are causing so many problems and have so much attention.

Ignore this individual-delete the emails-don't respond. Just pass the emails to Comcast and Vendio and ignore this idiot.

This individual is looking for attention and with everyone weighing in he/she is getting exactly what they want.

The second email is a dead give-away that it didn't come from the same person who sent the first one. Think about it-read the subject line-it's so obvious who sent the second one.

These individuals are just bullies and don't deserve the attention.

Good Luck!!!
