Hello, I have a very pretty ashtray but I can't figure out who made it. The measurements are 4 inches across by 2 1/4 inches tall. Thank you in advance.

WOW!
That's super!
Looks like sumptin designed by a 1930's WPA artist, or sumptin you'd find on Nelson Rockefeller's desk at Rockefeller Center, c.1939...
GREAT ITEM!

Unusual piece. I don't believe it's part of a Depression Glass set, so it might be difficult to identify.
Try asking on this board--

Just like here, not everyone is constantly checking the board. Could be someone on the night crew will have an answer for you. Maybe it's so obscure that nobody will know.

That could be true, I know I have never seen one like it before. Thanks for the help. I did not know how to post a photo there.

If I have to post a photo on the eBay board, I upload it to Photobucket. It's a one click download from there.

Its hard to tell by the size but could it be a cigar ashtray? The scoops look big enough.

Could you let me know when you list it please? I don't know anything about it but I like it.
Thank you.

Hi Beth, If I figure out who made it and get it listed I will let you know. The scoops might be large enough for a cigar, a cigarette has some 'roll around' room. We don't smoke but have a very old pack of cigarettes that we use in photos sometimes. Thank you for how to post the pictures on the eBay board, it is very different from here. Still no answer from them, this is turning out to be a stumper. Pat

Beth - if you think it will accommodate a cigar, you might mention it as a keyword in your title.

I have a friend who smokes cigars...actually rarely lights it just chews it I think. However, his office has quite a bit of art deco and the lines in this item remind me of some deco pieces he has.
I, too, think you will do well if you mention cigar.

Nice Art Deco look. It looks like something Heisey could have made IMO.

Yes, it's similar to Heisey Ridgeleigh, but when I checked the pattern, that ashtray wasn't listed.
It wouldn't by chance have an H in a diamond on the base, would it?

I thought of Heisey too, but no diamond H. I sure wish it was. I looked all over the legs too because Heisey would sometimes put the mark in places other than the base. I don't think it is a whimsey of theirs either because I can't think of anything that had those deco legs. I grew up near Newark, Ohio and strange pieces surface around there all the time, the guys were pretty inventive in their spare time. I have seen some fantastic canes and great vases.

For those who wanted to know, the ashtray will go up on eBay this evening. The title will have Art Deco Cigar Cigarette Ashtray in it but I won't have the auction number until it launches. Thanks for all your help!
