Be honest, Ken. The abnormalities in Nixon's behavior were getting caught and doing a bad PR job. Compare him to JFK, for instance. The media's changing attitudes and role have been rather fully explored, and I believe had an obvious impact. Basically, a more charismatic President heeding good advice might have remained in office.
There's always the argument that Nixon's tarnishing of the office built voter apathy and paved the way for weasels like Clinton. Certainly, voters seemed not to care about electing a proven prevaricator to the Presidency. Integrity is apparently no longer any type of prerequisite.

Fascinating analysis.

As we trudge through the next four years, I think that krs, will be provided with so much Dubya and crony material that he may actually become bored with being right. Being right affords little comfort when the reward is the same as the penalty for being wrong.
Bush will still be smirking at us on the TV.

Look on the bright side--Jay Leno will not be running out of material any time soon. He's probably already found a Bush look-alike.
If that article is copyright please edit most of it out or provide a link. I don't care if this person is being quoted or not but there is one very very distasteful word in that article that needs to be edited out.
Thanks for your cooperation. It's the first day of the New Year, give us a break

DrBeetle, go to sleep if you must, but if you look through the threads you'll see that at least four posters have said that they appreciate these tidbits, so you should realize that I have a much more clear mandate for doing what I do than YOUR candidate does for what he might do.

Joice, the "distasteful" word that you refer to was one used by George W. himself and quoted by the writer of the article excerpted by krs.
(Bunnicula, you will remember the word, I'm sure, in association with an answer that GW gave to someone who asked what he discussed with his father when they didn't talk about politics. Reference to furry felines in order here.)
I don't quite think the slap on the wrist is fair.

Is there any way that you can link the article, Ken? I read it earlier today when I was here briefly and thought that it was masterfully written, aside from the fact that I agree with the point of view. I thought that she succinctly and effectively created a pattern of behavior leading to a strong unified impression of Bush's character, or perhaps lack thereof.

Darn! You mean I missed a *bad* or distasteful word?
krs,
Since the link is gone would you mind telling me where you found this article?
I won't use Dubya's children although he did leave himself open for such attacks but that doesn't mean I don't want to read it.
Oh, and thanks for all the links you do leave. I don't know where you find or have the time to locate all those articles but I certainly appreciate your effort.
I read the local paper which had a good article on Ashcroft and the people that plan to argue against his nomination but *they* feel he will probably make it anyway.

Make that 5. You have no idea how often I fail to get the latest national news from The National Enquirer or 'Politex'. Now we can depend on krs to look under rocks for those really great news stories nobody else would carry.

I'm assuming the original poster was referring to this quote (which was mentioned in a thread from Nov. 8th entitled 'Bush called women an obscene word'):
--------------------------------------------
At the 1988 Republican convention in Houston that nominated George Bush (senior) for president, David Fink of 'The Hartford Courant' asked the son (George W.) what he and his father talked about when they weren't talking politics. The one-word answer: an obscene description of women. A shocked Fink later wrote that that remark was the younger Bush's "good ol' boy version of charm".
(I've been told that the word is question is the same one often used for cats.)
This quote comes from the book "Completing the Revolution: A Vision for Victory in 2000', written by Robert D. Novak, published in 2000. From the dust jacket:
"'Completing the Revolution' is Robert Novak's manifesto for a Republican victory in November and for implementing a conservative vision for government in the years to come. He bring to his analysis the combativeness familiar to those who watch him on CNN's 'Crossfire', and the insight and perspective that have helped to make him one of America's leading political columnists. He is not afraid to criticize the various presidential candidates or the Republican leaders in Congress, especially those who fail to stand up for the party's principles - whom he calls 'Clintonized Republicans'."

This is my first post here since 14Apr00, a date that I said I would never post here again, mostly due to receiving very unatural emails that were seen by family members. However, I have read these "links" with great interest and foreboding, and finally with disgust. I guess now I will loose my "posting priveldges" for being blunt.
krs: Deal with, and get over it. For a person who claims to have lives "5 lifetimes" in such a short period of time, maybe number 6 should not be filled with your rantings and ravings of a child like personality. Whining and whimpering about how "Al the great" lost an election, keeping it in the "forefront" of the table, really shows how sad your "lives" must have been, or currently are. Just an observation, mind you, but to get back to reality, in life there are winners and loosers in any contest, and appearantly you have backed a looser (and it is not the first time "Big Al" has lost this gig). So, why don't you find some martians that abduct people to write messages about, or maybe grandma's abortion that was preformed by an outlaw or something? Just send all of your reports to the Weekly World News, or some such rag (if you do not already), and live a new life.
In the begining, God created the heavens and the earth.

James: I was not quoting anyone specific, just a term I had seen/read somewhere, and with all of this copyright stuff, I figured I better be safe.

Doesn't everyone? Among us mortals anyway.
But my motivation was purely altruistic, Ken, much as I know yours to be public service, and so I thought it a shame that so many might miss the message.

gawd, I'm glad my dad wasn't in politics. That picture could have been ME when I was in school, except doing something much more embarrassing,(like pinching a cute guy's butt with a joint instead of a cigarette in my hand). I'm no fan of GW, but it's hard enough to be a kid without worrying about cameras catching you doing something goofy or stupid.
ddicffe, Nobody's "whining" about Al losing the election. Mostly we're whining about Dubya stealing the election. Get over it. You're going to hear it for the next four years.

LOL! I was teasing you, as you know, Dan, about your age which, if my reading of your ID elsewhere is correct, is the same as my young bride's.
Here's a perspective that might not be expected by some....
