Anything you type almost anywhere can eventually get indexed. In fact, the "best" search engine around today is probably Google. Try searches there, you'll usually find what you're looking for quickly. Big brother is... you know.
edited to say: Google supposedly has indexed 1/20th of the .com domain. This is the "biggest" out there. 80% of the top level domain (.com) is not even searchable... yet. Gives you a picture of the size of the worl wide web.

James,
I agree about Google but in this case,
Alta Vista gives the best results.

ken-thanks for the heads up. i was saying that each of these things-abolishing the electoral college AND a new voting amendment would both be congressional acts.

Helen,
I was just replying to Robin's post mentioning her surprise at finding her AW posts in a search.

bearmom,
Please remember that the CGs require that you discuss the topic, not the individual.
Now, I believe the topic of this thread is new topics to discuss instead of discussing the election. Did I get that right?

Where eBay failed, perhaps a sudden barrage of fluffy threads might succeed....

James,
sorry, I missed that message.
On the topic of fluffy threads, a good
place to find these is on the ebay boards...
all fluff and no substance...a lot of sweet
nothings etc.

Hey, over 100 posts to this thread. I guess it's more interesting to discuss what might be interesting to discuss than it is actually to discuss it.

LOL stockticker!
when in doubt a sudden barrage of fluffy threads could prove useful...
Rawbunzel I put 'enchanted' in the search engine there but there were 14000+ references I guess it helps if you have a very unique username.
Very werry curious though, I wonder if Altavista occasionally spiders the site to index all the posts... this was a little bit of a mindblower. I always thought our posts in the RoundTable were somewhat in the quiet backwaters of the Internet. But nooo... we could be unwitting internet stars without even knowing!
HJW (Helen?) actually a lot of that info was discussed right here at AW by networker himself a few months ago, after the case was concluded. I really didnt' follow the discussion but it's somewhere in all the old EO threads. He was quite open about discussing it if I recall correctly.
I was just surprised with a capital S to see our posts turn up in a search engine. I'll have to play around with google too, thanks for the tip James.

In reference to searching the web, there are many useful tools available aside from the regular search engines.
I do a lot of searching with WebFerret which actually is a sort of meta search facility that sends inquiries to a number of search engines.
The possibilities for web based research are nearly endless since one search may turn up information that feeds the next search and so on.
And this is all in the public domain so there is no need to feel bad about prying into someone's private life. They made those details of their life public when they posted on the web.
Web searches are particularly useful when trying to gauge the bona fides of another person who appears on the net.

I searched on my name at altavista and old places I visited, guestbooks I signed, they were there! From 2 years ago! LOL! When I first started ebay, I had links to other peoples sites and they linked back to me...and those are there too. If I had only known..but heck, Im still scratching my head at internet stuff, so I guess I will live on in some search engine, mistakes and all, lol.
