"Nation of children, nation of amnesiacs"

So that's the title, and it seems appropriate to me. This commentary speaks to a phenomena that everyone can witness each day.

Put it behind you, all those questions about this election. Let it rest. Look to the good; so maybe mistakes were made, maybe there was an injustice done both to the nation and to significant segments of our populace. It's done now. Forget it. Let's move on.

By now many of you have classified me as a democrat, but I'm not. Not a republican either. What I am is outraged over what I consider to be the most abhorrent manipulation of the foundations of our governmental system that I will ever witness and perhaps the most blatant example of the misuse of our institutions that has occured since this nation was formed.

Believe me, I would be just as outraged if it had been the other party that had done this thing, and there is no doubt in my mind that it was done.

Nevermind starting to talk of other years and other elections. This is now, not then, and this travesty is happening right now under all of our very noses.

Doesn't it stink?

krs,
I hope you had a nice Christmas.

In this matter I don't think the nation will forget. Had SO many things not happened everywhere I would feel much more comfortable with the election but I have to think that the people will speak, not through the president but through our legislators. I hope there will be a huge outcry for a standard voting process, that the media keep their noses out of it all until it's over everywhere in America. I hope for a reformation of both parties. Neither has clean hands.

We went to Washington in the middle of all the mess and I got to feeling really patriotic. We saw the Viet Nam Memorial, which I was ready for but also saw the Korean Memorial and was in awe. Almost everywhere I turned I could see the Washington Monument. It was a wonderful trip (came home with 11 band-aids on my feet) and I just know from seeing the things I saw that we will be okay.
I may belong to a political party but first and foremost I am an American.

Calamity, don't you wear shoes when you go to the big city?

Yep, I do and I THOUGHT they were comfortable ones, too. I even got blisters between my toes and under calluses. Gross as that may sound. I was just plain lame. If I was a horse someone would have shot me.
It is a big city. Especially all of those Smithsonean buildings. Whew!
(:

krs: Corruption always stinks, whether physical or political or judicial.

A quote from another time, but always appropriate (for me):

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"

It's settling in around the world; at least in some of the London press;
