bearmom- as i have known for a long time and as i have stated several times on various threads, discussions of religion and politics will bring out the best and worst in people. sometimes a thread is going in what seems to be a rather civilized manner and suddenly someone comes out of left field with either a nasty or seemingly unrelated comment. when that happens, other posters(myself included) will not hesitate to get it back on track or in the event that the new direction is more interesting will continue that way. don't get so upset as the posters and/or moderators will usually deal with it. back on the school issues- my wife is also a teacher with a conscience and i can both appreciate and relate to what you are going through.

This thread never said a word about what you could or could not discuss-just that I personally wanted something ELSE to talk about. As mentioned above, you don't have to read it. I'm sure Krs or Borillar will start another political thread soon. I personally would rather discuss the broken oven. I enjoy those 'fluff' threads and always look to see what Maui is up to. If I wanted to hear doom and gloom predictions, I'd read Krs' threads.
If you will notice, even though I said that these educational laws were in effect years ago, someone has still managed to blame Bush for them-that type of unfounded, non factual ranting is what I'm tired of hearing! To repeat, even though some people don't listen, I don't like Bush, didn't vote for him, and don't particularly want him for president. I just want some more lighthearted, interesting conversation...or productive, non vengeful discussion!

For Pete's sake! If you don't like the subject of a thread, the simple solution is: don't read it. There--end of problem.

Fluff? FLUFF???? Humph. And here I was, thinking about a ponderment (JUST KIDDING
Personally, I cant stand song threads. Fluff threads arent my speed either. Unfortunately, I cant think of good ones to start, and I ponder alot, so I figured others pondered certain things themselves and would join in. Ya know, there isnt a day that goes by that I dont read something in the newspaper, or see on TV, and wonder "what would the folks in RT think of this?". Hence, ponderments. Anyway...what was I saying? Oh! Yeah! Fluff???

edited to wave up there ^ and say THANKS for some of you liking my fluffy side, lol.
I have to agree with katyd, too. I never could figure out why folks opened a thread they didnt find interest in, just to complain about it. Never made sense to me. Myself, I like to skim them, just to see whos around and do a fluffy wave...sorta languishing and froofroo-ish with the wrist

Yes Maui and Enchanted - I would like to see some light threads right now. The political threads always seem to make posters cranky.
Maybe the pendulum can be pushed back towards the center. Too much fluff or too much deadly seriousness will always be chase off some posters. The biggest and best diversity of interested posters comes I think when there is a balance in thread topics.

I have to say, I love the political threads, especially being here in Fl.
I also like the ponderments, and I still can't decide between bird or fish.
And food threads!!!!!
And where is Barry(???)Barris?

Krs and Borillar have great threads!!!
And, I enjoy the lighter threads also. Who would think that the
"chicken stew" thread would be interesting? But the instruction by
Krs on "how to kill a chicken was great!
Variety is the spice of life!

Siggy - You must give "credit" where it is due - Spaz's thread was in response at least in part to my air-freshener-in-the-bathroom thread. I don't care to read about politics but some people don't care to read about my bathroom ponderings either. So what? Not everybody goes to the library to read the same books either.

Hamerchick: ah yes, indeed, credit where it's due. I recall your thread but Spaz's title was rather funny. (IMO)
Now that you mention it, have you ever been to someone's house and the bathroom looks like a library with huge tomes in there? I mean a magazine is one thing but "War and Peace"? I don't know whether to compliment them on their reading tastes or to suggest more fiber.
But I digress......

Reading War and Peace in the bathroom could lead to rectal itch!
I gave up long ago and put bookcases in each bathroom. Constipation can improve your mind, depending on the type of literature you stock next to the throne.

I remember my very first apartment upon leaving home. I could sit on the throne and still see the T.V. I usually had a magazine in there too, just in case there was a commercial break.

Stockticker, our first apartment, in college, had a toilet that leaned. To balance it out, we hung a mirror that leaned the other direction. Great when your inebriated friends go to the bathroom!

Bearmom,
I am sitting here laughing, thinking about your interesting bathrooms. I always said if I could find one of those magazine racks that hung on a rack I would have one in "my perfect bathroom".
Now, I will try to tie this into education. I have always been of the opinion that a student that read and enjoyed reading had less trouble in school than a student that disliked reading.
MHO is that I do not care what you read as long as you read! (there might be some exceptions according to age but my parents never did and I read everything I could get my hands on.
Another education factor that I dislike very much are "spending so much of the school year teaching children to pass that test to see how your school measures up with other schools."
I agree with KatyD, siggy and others. I believe the round table is a good place to discuss whatever topic is at hand. If I don't like it I can pass it by but there are very few threads that I do this on.
I believe in the end that it will round itself out. It does seem in that internet life travels very fast and changes in cycles. What can be a hot topic today is not by evening.
I have, on other boards, had some very nice discussions on politics and religion. No ideas were forced, no pushing buttons, just discussion and seeing where the other person is coming from and why. I found the sweetest friend that way. The only thing we could agree on most of the time was to agree not to agree but I enjoyed it. I also enjoy the RT discussions on politics etc.
I will apologize to you on the other thread you started and would have except it was locked when I got back. I am sorry if I came on too strong but it has been a long 8 years with the jabs at the Clinton administration some of which I felt were deserved and many not.
I also believe we may have an imposter in the White House. We will never know. This was a rude awakening to me and others as to just how little our vote may count or not.
I will stop there because I don't want to take your thread places you don't want it too or at least I am trying.
Maui,
I see a book on the horizon. 'Maui's Book of Fluff'. :lol
