Jazz quit smoking using a combination of the patch (the "step-down" one) and a prescription for Wellbuterol (sp-?). Three months smoke-free. She quit so the chances of fertilization will be better. We are going to a specialist of Jan. 6th. (I'll quit smoking when she's either pregnant or adopts.) Mark quit about 9 years ago, cold turkey, and he smoked almost 4 packs a day!

I used to be very organized, but now-not so much. I suppose that should be my resolution. I don't make them, as a rule. It's just too depressing when I fall off the wagon....

Hey twig, I just read an uplifting and funny story for anyone considering adoption. You might find it interesting too. (If anything, the guy is an entertaining writer.)

It's five parts so you have to click to continue to the end.

My wife says I'm just swapping horses all the time to use them as bait, a way to keep the girls interested in continuing to come home. What does she know anyhow....

prof- That would work for me! I used to muck out stalls all morning so the owners would let me ride all afternoon.

dbl- Thanks. I'll check it out with Jazz when she comes over later. (I'm teaching her how to make cheesecake. I have no recipe. We're trying to "write it down" for her.) Her husband's company will either pay for or reimburse, (I don't remember which) an adoption (I'm sure there are limitations). If her trips to the clinics prove to be disappointing, adoption is the next route. I told her my grandchildren can be purple, I just want some. (The hairy ones I buy for at Christmas DO NOT COUNT!)

Twig, she will probably get it worked out with the invitro if she goes thatroute. Its a big money-maken medical technology and the advances they've made are extreme. Was interesting in the article that the guy omitted they had wanted a 'white' child - which I dont think there's anything wrong with that for a white couple, but in my mind the major reason they choose to go all the way to Russia for a child.

What always has surprised me is how many couples who adopt then find themselves pregnant.

I think it has something to do with 'relaxing' about the whole thing....especially when medical exams have shown neither of the couple have any reason they aren't getting pregnant.

Tell her to relax, twig. Might work in their case too.

I think trying to stop smoking will also help. I know years and years ago my OBGYN told me that smoking removes approx. 1/2 of the benefit given through HRT meds. So...it must have some effect on the hormone levels of all women's estrogen levels.???

Yep, classic and dbl...two of my girlfriends went through the same thing....one herself....adopted and then got pregnant...and another it was her daughter. They adopted and then she turned up pregnant.

The stress of 'trying too hard' must somehow come into play. With a lot of people's busy lives...it's no wonder they don't 'hit' the 'right time of the month' for the woman/couple trying.

Or not being patient enough to give it the time it takes after being on birthcontrol, especially the pill, for long periods of time/years.

I'm sure many things come into play in this area.
