You really do have to wonder why you can't get an announcement page. Hey eBay...if something is down, how hard would it be to post the announcement right on the page that you display to tell you to go to the announcement? If ever there was a no-brainer...this is it!

The first time I schedule auctions on Sunday night in MONTHS, they're ending in the next hour or so. Never again!!

I just get the message that the "site is temporarily unavailable" and to see the Announcements page. Only problem is, I'm getting the error when I try to see the Announcements page too.

They will bring ebay up just before the deadline that they state to extend the auction.
What a wonderful system. If you have stock in ebay, that is.

Except the site won't work any better for them either. Disney ain't gonna be selling a whole lot when Ebay is down every night.
We can only hope that Disney gets fed up with Ebay's crap and pulls their contract. Sure they're the big wheel getting the grease but Ebay's techs won't keep it runing for them either no mater how hard they try- they have proven unequivicolly that they lack the ability to fix anything. Bubble gum and hope only go so far.

20 minutes ago they said they
took it down for 10 minutes
to prevent a bigger problem.
So far, they won't extend auctions.

Flamoral, that's an easy one...just let them be down for 2 HOURS and they will automatically extend it. 
See, as we ALL know just being down for a few minutes or an hour and a half doesn't really affect anyone.

I was planning to snipe an auction tomorrow night. In this particular auction, I am willing to pay WELL over what would be a reasonable final price to expect for the item -- just to ensure that I get it. I'm drawn to the item for sentimental reasons, and it's something that doesn't come up very often on eBay.
<b>kellyb1</b> is right. It's not worth the risk. It'll be proxy bidding for me. (Of course, this scenario assumes that eBay will be restored within 24 hours.) :-0

Okay what happens when your auction ends when they are down and it has one bid on it. How do you prevent the negative from that bidder when you try to explain to them that your auction ended when Ebay was down which prevented other bidders from bidding? How many hours do they have to be down before they will extend the auctions anyone know????

Anyone hoping for refunds can forget it-the home page works and as far as Ebay's concerned that's all the functionality they need to reject refund requests. "Well something was working."

Also, I heard that they tried to extend the bubble gum with hampsters, but it just ended up one bid mess.

As I suspected earlier, they knew about this in advance. How much in advance is hard to guess but since this is 'preventative' maintenance and not 'corrective' maintenance it means that they intentionally took the site down.

For anyone who wants to request credit:

This is the link for Ebay support. Click on BILLING and then OTHER ACCOUNT QUESTIONS.. then click on the link that says "I have tried instant help and still want to contact support" it will then take you to a screen. (When ebay is back up, that is!)
Enter your item numbers that were affected and tell them you want credit because ebay was down and it affected your auctions.
Has worked for me every time! Good luck!

Oh God they are sending out end of Auction notices to the Highest Bidders! I just sent this message to one of mine.
I just thought I'd let you know that my auction ended while Ebay's Auction Site was Down. Ebay may be extending these auctions for 24 hours since so many Seller's Auctions End on Sunday Nights. You may get a notice from Ebay stating that the auction ended however at the time of the end of auction Ebay was unaccessable. I will have to wait until tomorrow I guess to find out what there decision is on all of these auctions. They have been down a couple hours so far but I thought you might want to know. If these auctions have to be relisted I will let you know. Thanks for participating in my auction.
Does that sound Okay... Looks like I will have a lot of people to contact.

31 auctions closing for me during this. I sure hope they extend, or I am out $100s, or potentially more, as I had one item with a great deal of interest.

If they intentionally took the site down and no one knew that was going to occur, would it not be logical to extend auctions that were closing during that time? I mean you do not charge admittance to a place and then close it down and tell everyone tough luck.

If they took it down deliberately and do not extend auctions, then it could be argued that they are discriminating against some auctions in favor of others.
