Here I am again, the new kid on the block with all the questions. I am thinking of changing from PayPal to Paydirect. Could I have some of you seasoned sellers or buyers give me your esperiences with either. Who are you with and why.
Thank you.

Hi, I have been using Paypal for several months now. I have never had any problems with them. However, since I "had" to upgrade to a business account and started charging me fees I have been promoting Paydirect a lot more. Have only had 1 customer use Paydirect so far but it was easy and the money transferred to my account quickly. They are both good - I guess it just depends on if you are willing to pay the Paypal fees or not. I accept Paypal, Paydirect, Exchangepath, X.com and Bidpay.

I have had about 35 buyers pay via Paydirect, and I love it. I closed my Paypal account, so Paydirect is all that I offer as far as cc payment goes and to my complete shock I am now being paid via Paydirect 80% of the time. Surprised, because I had been getting paid by Paypal about 40-50% of sales.

It should be noted that I am selling on Yahoo which I am sure matters, but I can tell everyone unequivocally that the Paydirect user base is growing and very very quickly.

I canned PayPal.

I offer PayDirect and ExchangePath (which offers a $10 sign up bonus--read all directions), both of which I have had very good experiences with. I would recommend either one at this time.

I offer EnergyFlow and Bidpay for my international customers. Both of these services charge the customer, but are more economical than international money orders for most international customers. No one has used either one of those services to pay me yet, but I have read a lot of good things about BidPay on the AW boards.

EnergyFlow is less known for me.

For int'l I also use Bidpay and they are top notch. I have never had a payment from Energyflow, but would take them if someone wanted to use - I understand they are a bit cheaper and the buyer is paying (the fee) so I think they should have choice of carrier.

As for Paydirect, I think it stands the best chance of surviving without gouging. Yahoo has a zillion users and a long history of treating them MORE than fairly. Bottom line is I trust them, and I trust them because they've earned it over a 5 year period. They are in their own class.

I have been using paydirect since they opened it. I got ride of paypal after using it for about 6 months. I never felt easy with paypal and they were always changing things still are. I was never happy with them and I just kept hearing horror stories after horror stories. I am very happy with Paydirect. I would suggest you look at the Paydirect Banner thread in the Yahoo messages here on the AW boards for a banner to put on Ebay (the correct size and all) and the instructions to do so. It really does help. It seems that more and more sellers are switching to the Yahoo Paydirect. It helps that Yahoo has been around for awhile and has a good rep. in the business world.

Myself I don't think that Paypal is good business anymore. Not because of the fees they are going to charge and are charging, but because of its instabilty and lack of business sense and public relations.

Did you read the fine print when you signed up with Paydirect ? It states that at this time it is free, but as you remember PayPal started the same way. Give Paydirect some time and they will also charge fees. My observation. Also, money in your Paydirect account is not insured, but it is insured in your PayPal account.

your money is not insured because Paydirect is not a bank! They are a money courier, nothing more.
The email comes with da money, accept it, put it in da bank and dat's da end of dat.

You send the money to any e-mail address. You can use it just like PayPal except it is free.

Yes paydirect will eventually charge a fee but I'm sure it won't be any more than paypal's fees. Theimportant point for sellers is that paydirect will not charge back your account due to the way they handle the buyer's funds:
Buyer funds his account with charge card. Buyer cannot chargeback since the service has been provided and accomplished.
THEN buyer directs funds in his account to be sent to seller.
This is like bidpay... once the check is in the mail the seller is secure, it can't be called back.
I use paypal, but if I could only choose one (as a seller) I'd pick paydirect.

I agree with VeryModern.

Paydirect will probably start charging a fee eventually but it will probably be the most reasonable around. I have never had a problem with Yahoo except for their slowness in answering email. Paydirect has been a bit slow catching on but I am sure it will eventually be as big as PayPal.

With all of the trash talking about paypal I just wanted to log in and say I love my paypal. Yes they charge for the service and yes they said it was free but try to open a business account at a bank and tell them you accept about $300 a month on auction sells and they will laugh you off the face of the earth. I think it is a good service and I am looking forward to using their upcoming services. I also use Yahoo Paydirect but no one has paid that way yet and I do promote it on ebay and yahoo auctions. I also like Bid Pay and it is the best international way to get a money order. Don't tell them at the USPS but about half of my international send US dollars to me. I will not give up any service that MY CUSTOMERS prefer. When I buy I always look for the paypal logo and I do buy. I paid for an auction last night about 10seconds after it closed. I bet the seller loved Paypal then too.

I agree with Charliegirl 100%. I signed up for the Premier/Business account immediately as it was introduced and have no regrets. I do not mind paying the 1.9%; it is a lot cheaper than what a lot of other merchant account charge.

I love PayPal for both buying and selling, because it is so easy and convenient.

Have anyone ever used Ecount (www.ecount.com)? They also offer $10.00 sign-up bonus, allow you to use funds in your account to pay for purchases at a variety of websites, and they offer a Debit Card that you can use anywhere a credit card is used. I started using them about 3 months ago, but not many of my buyers use it.

Anyone noticed you can verify your bank account with PayDirect without sending in a canceled check now. They'll make 2 deposits to your bank account and you confirm them and it's verified.

deja vu

"Online bank account verification Paper forms are no longer needed to link your bank account with PayDirect! When you provide ABA routing and account number information for your checking or savings account, we'll make two deposits between $0.01 and $0.99 to your account(s). Once those deposits have cleared, we will send you an email asking you to confirm the amount of those deposit amounts with your financial institution. Next time you log on to PayDirect, you'll need to tell us the amount of the deposits we made to your account. Once you have done this, you can authorized transfers of funds from your bank account to your PayDirect account."

Thanks Uaru!

No one ever said that everything that PayPal has ever done has been bad. We just have a problem with the way that they implement new fees and proceedures.

I believe their integrity is called into question as well and when someone is handling my money, I want to know that they have the integrity to tell the truth and admit mistakes, learn from those mistakes and take steps to correct the problem so that it doesn't happen again. Checks and balances are essential and the mark of a good company, to quote another, is their response to a problem because all companies have glitches.

Sometimes the response is to take one on the nose and admit a mistake.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen PP admitting any mistakes, nor have I seen a response to glitches. For that matter, I haven't seen them admit that there WERE any glitches to respond to.

THAT is scary!

I'm in the process of changing over from PayPal to PayDirect. I had my first PayDirect transaction last week and I was very impressed. The money transferred over to my bank account in 1 day whereas PayPal takes about 4 days. They've convinced me... when I list my auctions this week, I'm leaving paypal off completely!

Signed on with PayDirect, but had nobody pay through them as of today. (Has been only 3 days) I read all the horror storys about PP, so I never used them. Hope PD is as easy and trouble free as everybody is saying!!!

heike55 It has been for me. I have received quite a few payments through PD lately.

I have also been receiving quite a few payments through ExchangePath as well and those have been very smooth.

I am not saying you have to close your PP accounts down and can them. That is a personal choice.

I feel that if we don't put all of our "eggs" in one basket, it will decrease our dependence on one source, minimize our risk and strengthen the whole system.

We have all seen what happens when one venue gets the lion's share of the business (Ebay) and what happens when there are no checks and balances for that venue.

I believe any new service that is introduced will have a 'honeymoon period'. New services have a big advantage over PayPal, they don't have to introduce people to the idea of email payments, that's been done for them. They have the advantage that they don't have high enough acceptance to be a target of fraudsters. They have the advantage that someone else has laid out a model to draw from. As far as PayPal's integrity I believe the fact that a new service can be introduced and accepted quickly is due to the integrity of PayPal, they showed people email payments can work and they won't lose their money.

If PayPal had done something like PayMe.com people would be very reluctant to accept a new email payment service.

uaru You have an excellent point.

However, when I talk about their integrity, I happen to be one of the people who had their money verifiably removed from checking without permission by PayPal.

Now, every business has glitches and that is to be expected especially with new companies that are testing uncharted waters.

However, the mark of a good company is one that finds their mistakes and rectifies them.

In my case, PayPal did not find their mistake and it took from Feb. 25 to June 14 to get my money returned.

I had hoped that when I sent the information and proof to Damon that he could tell me that PP found the error and had taken steps to make sure that if a similar glitch happens again, they would find it right away and return the money very quickly. I have not heard those words from Damon. I have been getting spin...

So, that along with the recent maneuvers by x.com have made me wary of their service.

I am also still not happy with the fee structure in that PP stated that they had tremendous costs in CC transactions and yet they are charging on ALL transactions (but conveniently left that out of their e-mail to their users as well as the pop-up letter that appeared when you sign in).

I have discontinued using their services in favor of other free venues. I hope and believe that those venues will have the benefit of the mistakes that PP has made and learn from those mistakes so that when they begin to charge, they will do so in a businesslike, well thought out manner.

Yes paydirect will eventually charge a fee but I'm sure it won't be any more than paypal's fees. >>

I am not sure it will. Paypal is a money service and that is all they are and they in the scheme of things believe it or not are relatively small. Where Paydirect is so much more and was set up in the start for their corprate users. There are many shopping places and services over at Yahoo and paydirect was made to make them easier to shop at. Just last night I was shopping at their stores after looking around at the auctions. Paypal screwed up when they thought they could do it on the float so they had to start charging fees and making their money off the little people. Paydirect is making their money off the big businesses. Makes a difference it really does I believe. If Paydirect every does charge a fee it will be a lots less then the others and paydirect will be a lot more professional on how they handle the matter. I am much happeir with Paydirect and feel much more secure and I think the system is set up so much smoothier then PPs. I must have had 50 payments or more so far through Ebay and Yahoo and not one hitch to it.

If you ever want to go look at a good business plan take a look at what Yahoo is doing. Any college students reading this I can tell you from my college days that if you want an A and need a business to review, Yahoo is the one.

traceyg--interesting take on this. You could be right about PD charging. Yahoo tends not to charge, but it does say in their TOS that they may charge in the future. I am sure, like you, that the fees, if any, in the future would be lower and much better thought out!

Like you, I have had numerous payments via PD and smooth as butter!

HELP!
Hello there, I've signed up for Paydirect and had one transaction, very smooth. I now have a new transaction. But the buyer want a "Billpoint invoice". Now I can't give her a Billpoint invoice, but is there a way to generate a Paydirect invoice?
