There is a $2.99 charge on my paypal account today to a 1-800 telephone number. When I call the number it is an internet billing service. I have not used my paypal debit card for any $2.99 puchase. Has anyone else seen this?

How do I find out what this is for? I never could get to a human voice when I called the number.

I finally did get a human being who said this is a charge for a website I signed up for(NOT). How do I dispute the charge?

Was it a debit card payment? If so you can dispute the charge. Call the number on the back of the card. (Does anyone else use your debit card?)

Be warned.... if you exercise your consumer right and dispute/stop the payment on your bank account/debit or credit card... Paypal will put your account on restriction. The only way to deal with this is through Paypal... and wait 30 days to have them tell you whether they can do anything for you.

did you use the card to buy something after that charge??see you cannot put thru an authorisation with $0 amount,so gas station would put like .01 through to verify the card ,then later comes the real charge.this .01 charge will later reverse itself.

I did call the 1-800 number back and found out what happened.

Someone signed up for a Yahoo email in my name, went to some chocolate website and signed up for a 2 month trial. My Paypal account was charged $2.99 for this 2 month trial.

I told the person that I had never had an email through Yahoo and had never heard of the website they were referring to.

They blocked my debit account from ever being charged again by that site and are refunding the charge back to my paypal account.

It would have been more accurate to say,

Someone signed up for a Yahoo email in my name, went to some chocolate website and signed up for a 2 month trial. My MASTERCARD (Paypal account) was charged $2.99 for this 2 month trial.

PayPal did not steal anything here, check with your family regarding if they used your card to set this up. If someone stole your card number, this would not be the only thing that would be done,

re your reply: "It would have been more accurate to say,

GET OVER YOURSELF ALREADY!!

The point is they charged it to a MASTERCARD. It is not relevant that it was a debit card, on your Paypal account. It could have been linked to a bank account or an actual charge card.

No one else has had access to my debit card. My granddaughter uses my computer but she would not have gone to Yahoo to set up an email account. And she does not have access to my debit card.

No one else uses my computer at all.

It does worry me about what else they have done though. Not much I can do but wait and see is there?

I only keep enough in my Paypal account to cover ebay and Auction Watch charges so they cannot ask for too much. The bank account that is tied to my Paypal account is kept with a balance of $5.00 so they would be stuck there too.

The point is a compromise (someone learning your card number) could just as easily come from eBay or AuctionWatch or any other place you have ever used the debit card.

If your conceerned, why not call Paypal and have the cancel the card and issue a new one.

Coonr wouldn't close his PrayPal account. They might not send him his next MakeYourselfAnAss check.

What do you mean? It's so obvious that PrayPal is compensating you for making yourself look like an a$$. Why else would you be doing it? Are you mentally challenged or something? Let us all in on your secret. Enquiring minds want to know.

did I lose control of the original thread or what? lol

Be careful rarriffle - coonr's likely to go ballistic over anyone thinking they can "control" a thread (other than himself, of course). lol

You see, that's kind of his 'M.O.' He tries to deflect attention away from the paypal problem being discussed by nit-picking at comments made by other posters.

rarriffle, yep you lost control. They like to make me the topic, when their is no reason or logic to supposrt their position.

Yes, "WE" like to make it about coonr - that's why this thread had 22 messages from 10 users, yet 1/3 of the posts are from guess who?

And how many of that 1/3 were answer comments either direct to or about me?
