I have been using paypal for a few months to pay for (and receive funds) for items that I buy and sell. I really liked the service that you provided, however things have changed over the past few weeks. I have been dealing with a guy (selling assorted networking gear) for a couple of months and he had been sending me money orders. I FINALLY talked him into signing up for Paypal so that I could ship quicker to him etc.... I did a few transactions with him after he signed up. Aparently he paid for the items I sold him with an "echeck" ???? I waited until the checks "cleared" in each case before shipping. AGAIN, I said that the echecks had cleared as stated by Paypal..... Out of no where, my account was frozen and the funds were reversed????? Now, keep in mind that I use my household bill money occasionaly to fund my "Buying and Selling" I then saw online that in order to bring account into good standing, I needed to Fax some documents (checking account statement, Driver's License and utility bill) which I did immediately even though I felt my privacy was violated. I was told that the funds were possibly fraudulent??? Keep in mind that I had already done many transactions with this other guy OUTSIDE of paypal with NO PROBLEMS. OK, I'm sure you know the procedure: wait 3-5 days etc. etc. which I did. In the mean time, the other party involved did the same (faxed documents) I waited and waited and finally received an email saying that inorder for anything to be done, I needed to provide tracking numbers for the last 5 payments received into my account. I did so and was then told I would need to wait 3-5 days for them to be reviewed???? I made NUMEROUS phone calls to paypal and got the biggest "runaround" in my life. Today after DEMANDING a resolution, the restriction on my account was lifted. That's great except for the fact that the funds from the echecks are still reversed, leaving my account in a negative state. Now, in the mean time I had been counting on the money in my paypal account to pay my mortgage as I have used other monies to buy more merchandise. Today I was told that my funds could be held for 30 days or so before they are reversed back??? THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.....

Hi netrader,

As a reminder, I do have numerous inquiries daily, as well as posts at additional forums. I will see what I can find out.

Another unhappy Paypal customer... and Damon once again showing us how understanding he and Paypal customer service can be. (He needs time to find a policy to quote...)

I'm just wondering if I should call my brother and discuss this with him in hopes that he will `start investigating all the "paypal horror stories" and possibly get NBC to do a quick story on all of this stuff ? (he works for the Today Show) I originally thought these cases were minimal but after doing some research on sites like this, I'm seeing that this type of treatment from Paypal is very widespread.

may be you should just stay with accepting money order which cost you no paypal fee and paypal pain!!
it is very honorable for you to make less and ship quicker by accepting paypal!!

As a matter of fact, I just sold him some more gear and we went back to the NON-PAYPAL method.

Well, if nothing else, from what I've seen around here making it known that you have a media contact usually gets some kind of action! LOL! I think you should contact him, give him the info and the 'www.paypalwarning.com' website to look at, and at least see what he thinks! Good luck to you!

Hi frustratedguy,

To be blunt, you couldn't do my job. The issue with netrader was directed to the correct department yesterday. I also responded to his posts/emails the same day.
I also have customer cases before this, posts to make at other forums and an extremely heavy email load (between 80-200 daily). I also have other roles within the company.

I truly wish that I could make the same concerted effort you do to criticize someone that is helping.

The issue netrader is dealing with (the payment) does not have to do with his account. It appears the issue (being worked on) has to do with the account making payment. Not every issue that comes to my attention is going to be resolved in a matter of minutes, as I may have to deal with more than one person/department.

I could also make a very consicous decision not to help users that come to the forum with their inquiries. If that is what you would prefer, please let me know. If a customer reports a problem, I am one of the people involved in resolving it. I am looking for solutions to their problems, not in creating new ones.

UPDATE:

Well, my account is back to normal. I'm not sure who did what but at least I was able to withdraw the money to pay my mortgage. Damon, if you helped, THANK YOU.

Now, I need to decide if I should leave my account open and just not leave money in there or CLOSE it all together.

Thanks again to all who responded.
