I just got thru about 4 or 5 emails to/from a buyer for a book in the UK. He says Paypal UK quoted him $3.50 for some sort of expedited shipping/handling for a book to the UK.
NO WAY! My Terms Of Sale are $3.50 for 1st class shipping in the USA. There is no reason whatsoever for Paypal to attempt to calculate s/h outside the home country.
There is no way I'm going to fill in the s/h for each and every country that Paypal takes payment from either. I could spend hours weighing and putting up hundreds of different prices but that's absurd.
If Paypal doesn't stop this, I'll have to get out of international payments.

neither paypal nor billpoint figure shipping fee,are you sure it is not something you have entered on your auction listing,if you stated shipping fee is 3.50 and did not block international shipping??
check your listing?
if you sell on amzn marketplace, amzn dictates how much customer pay for shipping.

No, if you read my post carefully, you'll see that the $3.50 is for USA shipping. When Paypal tries to calculate the shipping for International order, they erroneously put the USA amount in for postage and I have a confused and somewhat po'ed buyer. He's ok now, but if every international order I send out gives an indication of US shipping charges being sufficient, I'm going to have to stop selling internationally.
Now whether or not you think Paypal does this is beside the point. Either Paypal made it confusing for the buyer, didn't note that it was an international sale or WHATEVER, it was enough to queer an auction and I don't like that at all.
Don't blame the users when the automation makes it possible for them to err.
I don't block International buyers, I welcome them.

Sorry, that was thru ebay to a buyer in the UK and I'm reporting what he said. For reasons best known to Paypal, they don't bother to respond here.
I would think that completely screwing up international orders would be enough to get their attention, but apparently not. They're probably more focused on how to go public than worry about some measly seller.

Hi terrydarc,
PayPal would not quote shipping rates for users. This item is decided entirely by the seller, so I am a little curious as to why you think PayPal would give a shipping charge for an item?
I would need some details from the buyer about the flow they went through. This does not seem like a PayPal issue.

I dunno why he thought that not having seen his email. He was probably confused, but he sent off what he thought was a correct payment including s/h, but his assumption was based on the USA rate. He might have gotten confused by something AW sent - some buyers are easily confuese and usually to their $$ benefit. Funny, huh?
I'm reassured that Paypal doesn't try to compute the shipping and handling charges, because they vary wildly depending on destination country, source country, weight and shipping method.
