I am new here so maybe this has been mentioned already, but here goes.
I had been receiving a few small payments from a friend. My balance never got very big and I kept taking the money out. All of these transactions came from her Paypal account directly.
Suddenly, some of the transactions started getting listed as CC payments and so they wanted me to upgrade to a business account to receive them. I rejected them and she resent them making sure there was more than ample funds in her account to cover the transaction.
Some of them came through normal, but occasionally some would still come through as Credit Card payments. Eventually, I gave up and upgraded. Big mistake. Now everything she sends me gets a percentage taken out whether it is from her account or not. That is a total rip off. How many other small time users have they tricked into upgrading so they can get their cut?
We are both cancelling our accounts soon and finding alternatives.

Hey Stopwhinning and Tom. I think fair is fair their web page says--- Sign up for your FREE PayPal Account!--I take it that's what Nathan signed up for and didn't expect to be forced into upgrading. I think they call it bait and switch in many circles.

she does not have to updgrade,if she refuses the credit card payment.
if her buddy has enough cash in her account, she does not have to use her cc to send payment.
whoever provides paypal with its merchant account charges a discount fee and transaction fee which paypal passes on .
i have to agree with tom, this is a spoiled brat who wants a free lunch, the sooner the pair leave paypal, the better for the rest of us fee paying users.
postage 34 cents plus an envelope is the minimum they will be paying,of course if her partner does not have cash, she can always withdraw cash from her cc credit line and pays her cc provider a transaction fee of what 15 dollars??? and interest rate of what 12% ??/
they can also drive and meet each other someplace, figure gasoline cost at what 1.29 per gallon??

Your friend was sending you credit card funds. You can't accept credit card funds with a personal account. If your friend had used just funds from the balance or their bank their would have been no problem.
I suppose you could have your friend wire money from their bank to your's. You'll find a problem with that, they'll charge both of you a rather hefty fee for that service, and you won't probably won't find a forum where you can tell how your bank scammed you.
If a merchant accepts a credit card they pay a fee, if a merchant accepts a debit card which is basically an instant check drawn on the customers account they pay a fee. Are merchants being scammed when they accept a debit card?

nathan started out with a personal account, then upgrade when her friend sents her fund from her credit card.if she downgrades back to personal, she would not be able to accept cc money from her friend.
it sounds like the key is her friend, she has to make sure she only send her fund from her paypal balance and not use the credit card.
they can also look into aol direct or yahoo direct, but just bear in mind every time your friend uses her cc ,someone has to pay

God forbid a person take a companies marketing at face value or expect them to honor the impressions that they intended to leave but then deny after problems occur. Marketers, Lawyers, and Politicians, never trust a word they say. Some sheep still think they need to defend their slave masters. Defend your interests like they do. Why should you take it in the chin, they are the ones with the money, they are the ones with the power.

i would be rather leary of FREE SERVICE,if they say FREE,i say FOR HOW LONG??
if i sign up for the FREE SERVICE,i would make sure there is a contingency plan-when it becomes NOT FREE,what should i do then??
where can i go and what does it cost to stop using their service?some place charges a fee to close your account??
also one good question to ask is -if it is free, where does the money come from, and when does that money run out??

Be careful when you upgrade your account and make sure your private account is empty! I willingly opened a business Paypal account since I was selling on eBay. Paypal allows you to have one personal and one private account. However since 2001 I have had almost $300 of my money held hostage by Paypal in my private account.
When I opened my business account I used the same credit card as with my private account. I was able to transfer several hundred dollars of non-credit card funds from my business account into my private account. Then one day when I went to use the money in my private account Paypal demanded a unique credit card number and a unique bank account number before I could spend the money or even send myself a check! What if I only had one credit card or one bank aaccount!
I called Paypal and I begged. I sent them numerous e-mails to no affect. I have consistently refused, after all I have heard, to give them any more bank account or credit card numbers. So my money has been just frozen.
Wait! just now while playing with my private frozen account I found a close account button. For $1.50 Paypal will send me a check to my name and street address. Yeah!!!.....???????? Oops.
Now I can not log into my old personal Paypal account! Now I have no way to prove there was money there. Am I an idiot or what? I did not print out the screan showing the money and the transactions. Now Paypal can really screw me. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi tinderfly,
Our security measures only allow for one financial instrument per PayPal account. Credit card/bank account verification would be ways we verify your identity, so we wouldn't allow someone to open multiple accounts with the same financial instruments.
You are more than welcome to contact me about the issue directly. I would like to see if we could bring closure to the issue.

Write to the Nebraska Attorney General. I received a letter from them today saying they forwarded a copy of my complaint to paypal and requested an answer in writing. Maybe with enough complaints they'll help clean this garbage up.

Ah, Jim, that's only if you can successfully sign up With C2it!
funny thing... I've tried twice, and I kinda know my way around the internet. I finally called c2it customer service(easy to reach and eager but not, in the final instance able to help) and I said... "If I'm having this much trouble to sign up- will I have this much trouble acessing my account? and, will I find any buyers who have been able to sign up?
I want something as easy to use as paypal, and secure like Citibank. Is that too much to ask?
ALSO- I use the internet for my sales instead of opening brick-and-mortar. When I consider that I'm not payong rent on a storefront, not paying salespersons salary, not paying shopowners insurance- the paypal cc fees seem damn reasonable. If only I could feel safe about their customer service.
