Danger, danger Will Robinson!
I took my shiny new Paypal cc plumped with a couple hundred bucks from sales on ebay down to a local merchant and bought $37 worth of stuff. Transaction went like lightning!
Got home, checked. Yep, funds debited before I could get back for the exact amount of my purchases.
Used some of the stuff from my purchase and returned the rest to the merchant. Gave him my shiny new Paypal cc for the funds to be credited.
Got back home, checked. Nope! That was two days ago. Funds are still not credited back into my account.

PayPal has bills to pay. Didn't you know that that was part of the deal? Good luck getting your money back. I'm sure they will find some way to make you seem like the dummy here. Its always the customers fault according to PayPal. They do not make mistakes.
Credits back from a merchant can take several days to post. This is quite typical with any merchant crediting amounts back to a card. They generally get back within 2-5 business days.

Where do you all bank that refunds to cards are credited the same day? I want an account! Two business days is the bare minimum that I've experienced with any non-PayPal card.

JS,
You mean I should just accept bad service as a condition of doing biz?
All I wanted was to know why money was sucked out of my account faster than it was put back. Same merchant, same card, same merchandise - the only difference is that Paypal gets to keep my money longer than I do. How about a reciprocal, fair relationship.

Terry,
You may or may not believe this but here goes. No debit card will be credited with the same speed it is debited. It doesn't work that way, never has, and I doubt it ever will. Your debit card from your bank will work exactly the same way, the only difference is you probably don't have immediate access to the transaction records.

uaru and Damon are correct on this. No matter if it's your PayPal card or if it's a bank issued card; you wont recieve the funds as quick as they're debited from your account. For my PayPal CC I've had monies that have taken anywhere from 2 days all the way to 7 days to be put back. It really all depends on the merchant that you bought the items from. I use my PayPal CC on a daily basis. I love it. If I've ever had a problem it's ALWAYS been corrected. :+)

Actually I see my Paypal card exactly as a debit card. If I have a positive balance in it and the merchant executes a transaction, Paypal gets immediate transaction fee at no risk, being backed by my bucks. Merchant gets paid just like a debit card was used. But when the merchant in good standting attempts to pump money back in on a credit, it takes days. People who say "this is just the way it is" are obviously not understanding. That may be the way it is, but it's wrong.

You may not like it, but that just is the way it works. On my bank debit card and 2 traditional credit cards, the same merchant takes a few days to credit my account, yet it takes less time for them to charge it. You can continue to complain but that is not going to change how credit/debit card processing works.
