AT K-MART STORES THEY HAVE A NEW ITEM THAT IS A NOKIA CELL PHONE. THIS PHONE REQUIRES NO CONTRACT AND YOU DO NOT RECEIVE BILLS. THE PHONE IS $79.99 WITH A $30 IN STORE REBATE AND ANOTHER $30 MAIL IN REBATE. THAT MAKES THE TOTAL OF THE PHONE ONLY $19.99. THE WAY YOU USE THE PHONE IS YOU BUY MINUTES WHICH RUN $7.99 FOR 10 MINS $19.99 FOR 30 MINS AND SO ON. I THOUGHT IT WAS A REALLY GOOD DEAL SO I WENT TO GET 2 BUT HAD TO GET A RAIN CHECK. I CAN'T WAIT THOUGH. IT YOUR LOOKING FOR A CELL PHONE THIS SEEMS LIKE A GOOD DEAL YOU ONLY PAY FOR THE MINS YOU USE.

Sure, there are pre-paid plans that are cheaper. But this sounds perfect for me because I just want a phone for the car with no monthly charges just for emergency's sake.

Be careful with some of those "Plans". Quite often you are not buying minutes but instead are buying "units" and then the calls are charged by "units".... It might be 10 "units" to initiate the call then 3 "units" per minute... with out of area even higher... then when you figure out just how many units you are using for a 5 minute call, it can work out to a VERY unreasonable amount.

I checked this out at Kmart yesterday. The phone card expires in 30 days, so basically the phone will cost a minimum of $7.99 per month if you always have an active phone card. That still isn't too bad for peace of mind in case of a car stalling, etc. I have a cell phone and the package plan is 400 minutes per month and unlimited weekends in my calling area. The total bill is $50.00 per month. I basically no longer have any long distance charges on my home phone.
Also, thanks to everyone for all the info for free stuff that is available. I really appreciate it.
