Oh I am SO glad I am not still involved in retail or dot coms. This is the season for returns and returning is rarely quick or efficient (stores don't want it to be, for the most part...the more of a hassle returning stuff is, the fewer returns they have to take back).

That said, returning stuff is sometimes a necessity. And I want to compliment people on GOOD return-service when I can. I purchased a Polaroid Joy Cam from Office Depot (takes instant pictures a little smaller than the traditional square instant pics). I wanted it for my travel pictures, but after having about 40 out of 50 pictures come out defective (blobs of developer obscuring the picture, double exposures, blurry lines on the pictures, totally black pictures) I gave up on it. I had lost the receipt for Office Depot and the store would not do a return without it. Wrote Polaroid a email detailing my disappointment and problems with the camera and received a very polite and helpful email back within two days, telling me the camera would be replaced with a new camera or if I prefer, with an upgraded model for my trouble. I was more than happy with this offer and mailed the thing in today. This is definitely the fastest and nicest response I've gotten from a manufacturer in a long time.

brighid868...that is a terrific story! Usually the manufacturers want you to deal directly with the retailers. Maybe they received a lot of complaints on that particular item and are using some good will to rectify it. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you were treated so well.

I have dealt with Polaroid directly, twice in the past two years...Both times tryin' to get 600 film photo holders for an annual Christmas event....Their folks were extremely helpful, even went so far as to describe each & every card they had available (no website pix were available the first year), shipped immediately, product packed well & just as advertised....They were really fantastic....I would gladly do business with them anytime!

I also had a great response from Amazon this year..I ordered several books for a friend to give her kids for Christmas...Well, the books arrived soggy, with no packaging besides the cardboard outter box...With no time left to return or rebuy these books, she had no choice but to give her kids quite rippled books (we had to put 'em on the dryer and dry 'em out, and well, if you've ever done that, you know what the books look like afterwards!....I email'd Amazon a complaint & lo & behold, they responded & sent me *free of charge* new copies of each book....Impressive....

Next time you have a wet book stick a dry sheet of paper between each page of the wet book - stick it in the microwave and wave it on very low power or a long time, turning and flipping it. I had a large book that took almost 2 hours to steam out, but it looks pretty good now. After I had waved it I took it out in the garage - put a small piece of plywood on it and parked the car wheel right square on top of it for a couple nights.
