We spent the day trying to sort out all three of our home computers. The kids system got the FunLove virus, which spreads over networks, sooooo, the other two got it also. Attached to it is a nice one called QAZ.worm which is a worm that allows others access to your system via a "back door". Along with them, we found remnants of KAK as well.
As we cleaned, the worm bounced from system to system with each reboot. I think we finally killed them but am not holding my breath. We disconnected all the systems and attacked each of them again.
My 16 year old son is to blame we think, by loading some IP gaming software that "should" be ok, but the company has been marked as suspect by Symantac.
I knew that Notepad shouldn't be starting in our Start up file, but had no idea it was because of a virus. Now I do...the fixes were virus boot disks, registry changes, deleting files from DOS, lots of lovely tricky work.
Arggggghhhhhhhhh and curses on those who write this nonsense!
