I am not as internet savvy as I would like to be but tell me if I'm wrong on this.
Isn't spam when someone sends you an email you did not ask for?
I got two emails tonight that stated " .This is not a SPAM. You are receiving this because
you are on a list of email addresses that I have bought."

Okay now I thought if I did not request it it is considered Spam.
Help a confused mind please.

Lincoln once asked "How many legs would a goat have if you called his tail a leg?" and then answered "Four. Calling a tail a leg don't make it so".

Saying "this is not spam" doesn't make it so.

Another thing to hate about unwanted spam - when I try to reply asking to be taken off the list I'll usually get a "undeliverable mail" message. How convenient.

Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

Whoa, you actually get spam where they actually say the info was bought? Don't think I've seen that yet. There are some that say I signed up for their mailing list when I know I didn't.

Often I get ones insisting they're not spam when they are (although one of these included an alternate email addy to contact in case his ISP shut him down for spamming, lol) or cite some bogus legislation which supposedly says it's ok. I've even gotten spam on how to "make money" sending spam.

If you didn't request it, as unsolicited commercial email it's still spam. But there are some outfits which DO share their mailing lists. Most of mine I think were a result of email address harvesting from eBay. Now that the emails aren't as readily available there en masse perhaps that will cut down on it.

I used to just delete spam but after a while it bugged me enough that I now use spamcop.net to report them.

Yeah, I use NetCop as well. There are about 10 spammers I've gotten at least one of their accounts closed, and that cost them money. Then, there are the two spammers who keep insisting on spamming me, even though I've gotten them kicked off and barred from several ISP's, as well as making them loose a hellava lotta money. I don't mind spending a few seconds to cost spammers real money -- its lotsa fun!

Try SpamCop -- it's free!
