This board isn't an accurate cross-section of anything, is it? I find that more people here seem to describe themselves as "independent" than as Democrat in any case.

dejavu...there were more republicans hanging around before, but have left due to the aggressive bashing that went on. I hope they come back and participate in other threads.

katyD~ Neeners are BAD FORM in Republican territory..............we show our neeners by playing golf and being GOOD sports, NOT photo OPs and MAKEUP that rivals our ugly WIVES!sheesh.............how scary!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY do like Al's new hair transplants and Grecian formula,
Tipper has to be a little jealous of the blusher and eye liner and broomstick strategically placed, added with the weight gain so his suit doesn't fit, all in all well turned out presidential candidate with rhetoric to match.

Can someone tell me the legal tally for both sides? BEYoND ABSURD~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~and who is picking up the TAB?

dejavu,

I doubt Tipper is any more jealous of Al's make-up than Nancy was of Ronnie's make-up when he went before the cameras.

Surely, you didn't think Ronnie's glow was au naturel.

Oh, and that strategically placed broomstick....it's commonly referred to as good posture.

Nice.

I just get tired of beating my head against walls. Most of the threads have shown me that I'm not going to convince anyone of anything and they won't convince me either. Therefore, why aggravate myself?

I am Republican-and Texan. I have not been reading or posting on this forum because of all the Bush bashing. Most of it has no basis in fact, it's just a contest to see who can make the most original insult, true or not! And I would feel the same way if you were making jokes about Gore or Hillary.

Used to be, there were so many interesting discusssions on here, I loved to read them all! Now it just depresses me that so many people seem to think it is smart, or cool, to make rude comments about anyone-bush, gore, or other posters! Begins to sound like the Ebay forum-survival of the loudest and rudest.

UpintheHills, no, I believe no one can convince anyone of anything...

Bearmom, thats why I was reluctant to sign on here, (lurked for quite some time) the bashing etc.

Anyway ; question? was is this site dominated by Dem's.

I'm more a centrist, so I don't know if that answers your question. I don't vote a straight party ticket, I vote the person.
I try and stay away from the more 'biased' media.

There was a lot of interesting things I learned about both candidates before voting, that the media doesn't tell you.

Its out there, but the media rarely, if ever, tells the whole story.

Ditto the previous Republican replies. It has been too maddening to attempt any reasonable conversation. It was just better to let the Dems bash amongst themselves then to give them any further fuel. We're all just a bunch of selfish rich people (yeah, that's why I scrounge thrift stores to make an extra few hundred dollars a month).

By the way, I was quite impressed with Al Gore's speech tonight.

Republicans are here. But it is futile to argue past a certain point.
I also get sick of the name calling and insults on hair or clothes or making fun of someone's name. If it's Gore or Bush doesn't make much difference to me but personal insults get dumb.

Last but not least I also don't care for the hmmm how to put it.... Hysterical and hateful nature of certain posts. No matter how much I may agree with the core message, the delivery sucks.

I pretty much gave up posting in the politcal threads. It became evident that very few posters desired any type of reasoned discussion and all I was seeing was pointless bashing and regurgitated spin.

I also thought Gore showed a lot of class tonight.

Oh puhleeze! Spare us your condescending observations and "charitable" comments. How was he supposed to act? Yes, he was a class act tonite. Dubya, on the other hand, came off as always, smirkily phoney and self-righteous. The only surprise there was that it appeared for once that he didn't have to read his lines from the teleprompter. Apparently he spent all day in front of the mirror practicing his "lines". He's a thief, and most of this country knows it. The only good thing to come out of this is that we'll only have to put up with him for 4 years. If his keepers are careful, they'll manage to prevent him from doing too much damage. A lot to hope for though.

"The only surprise there was that it appeared for once that he didn't have to read his lines from the teleprompter."

There were, for once, more than one teleprompter. I saw the backs of two of them when he walked up to the podium. They look like music stands, but they're really overhead projectors and someone sitting at the foot of them puts the transparent pages down.

Very astute observation about the teleprompters.

Though, we here that watched, thought he looked like he was doing it without a net, and well.....

And Gore was very good , and thats a truthful comment KatyD, not a condescending or charitable statement.

Yes, time to move on.

Hell, maybe I'm an idealist, but I was proud to be an American tonight.

It was a long and ugly battle, and the rhetoric on both sides rang false, and there wasn't any shining candidate as far as I could see.

But I think Gore conceded with dignity, and I think Bush accepted with humility, and I think that the pair of them are not the best we have to offer, but rose above their deficiencies sufficiently in service to an ideal we all share. My daughter scoffed at that ideal tonight, and my heart sank, because it is an ideal worth holding on to, and something countless of us have fought for. And given our lives for, some of us, in a way that is not in the least metaphoric.

There's nothing that's happened to shake that ideal. If anything, the depthlessness of our candidates this year is synonymous with our times. Yet they rose above their shared inconsequentiatlity to nod to something far greater than either of them.

And I'm proud to be part of a country where even the least of us can try. And I'll grumble, but I'll pay and I'll do what it takes to sustain America. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

And if our current leader is less than perfect, I think that deficiency was foreseen.

I love the two-party battle, and I'm not adverse to another party, as well. I love the country that lets us battle, and I love the country that eventually unites, and I said early on that I thought this particular battle had no winner I loved to back, but I'll cross my fingers that the one who won can rise to the needs of the office.

And if not, 4 years isn't a long time.

In the meantime, I wouldn't live any other place, because the Star Spangled Banner still makes me cry, and America and all it stands for is more than an amazing experiment, it's a gift, and one I'm grateful for.

D.
