Does this mean we are finally done with the political threads? Can I at the thought?

FrannyS: I wouldn't hold your breath, if I were you. Now come the post-court discussions, the rehashings, the lamentings, the sputterings, and so on. Could be a few days yet before the election threads get completely out of the systems.

As a Nation, we are now divided more than ever...It's not going to go away that easily, nor that quickly.

Shosh...58% of us did not vote for President Clinton either, but had to settle for what we got. And when he was elected in '92 (with only 40%), he had as much experience as a Southern Governor as Bush has.

Sheesh! What is it about you people that feel the need to keep bringing up Clinton in all this? Do you think you can EVER get over him? Sheesh!

katyd...just proving a point. It's okay to insult a Republican president, but not okay for a Democratic president, even when they are almost comparable.

Besides...ol' Bill himself said that electing Al Gore was like getting him for a third term. And we all know that Bill never lies.

A President must, like any leader, earn support. It is no one's due.

We shall see.

Marvin---it sounds like you are a Republican....so I ask you....Did you as a USA citizen unconditionally support President Clintion throughout his 2 terms???

Did other Americans support him blindly without question??

From the news we got up here in the backwoods of Canada---it didn't seem that way....so why expect everyone to welcome the next president with unconditional support???

The time to support out next President has come.

Yes, now let's all rally behind Sherif Rosco P. Bush or is that George W? Oh well, what does it matter...

Unconditional support is what is EXPECTED when you have a dictator or you are shot at dawn---that is not the support I would hope to see for an elected leader.

Those in the military are sworn to support the 'Commander in Chief'---the general population does not.

The so-called winner didn't abide by democratic principles in the first place, not us. That's why I can't support him.

Sorry, I don't get this 'one has to support the President' stuff. What does that mean, precisely? Not plot civil insurrection? That's an easy one for most of us, I think. Not criticize or disagree? That's another matter entirely, regardless of who is President.

The Constitution allows us to disagree with and criticize our government and its representatives, whether elected or appointed. How is exercising that right not abiding by democratic principles?

Dictatorships generally do not allow for dissent or criticism. This system does.

When I was enlisted, I was required to show respect to "The Commander in Chief". I respected the office, followed his lawful orders, carried out his policies. Kept my mouth shut while wearing the uniform of my Service. His signature ( or facsimile thereof) is on my retirement certificate.
I did not respect that draft dodging skirt chaser. I did not support him.
I will show respect to the office of the "President". I will teach my children to support our system of government, because I do believe in it. I will obey the laws of the land.
I don't have to respect that smirking little daddies boy, and I sure as hell don't have to support him.

Marwin...don't worry about all the negative garbage you will get regarding posting anything positive regarding Bush or the Presidency here.

Everytime I would try the others would in a very loud voice shout me down.

There are Republicans here...and I am PROUD the US Supreme Court saw GORE'S trying to steal the election for what it was and shut him down. The 'recount' was NOT legal because there wasn't a uniform law in FLA for the recounting..and all the counties and MILITARY VOTES weren't included in the 'recounts'.

It should be amusing to watch the Democrats throw their SORE LOOSERMAN fits Wednesday.

For those democrats of a higher level of education...I will simply say...
NEENER NEENER!

Ah but you didn't and don't support Clinton and according to Marwin you should simply because he's the President. Agree with Marwin now?

Siggy,

Nope you are wrong dear. I VOTED for Clinton! (Yep...was stupid and crossed party lines...was won by his charm like a lot of other women...he looks...well...so charming)...

The final straw with him was when he looked in the camera and said 'I have not had sex with that woman!'..you know I believed him.

Won't be crossing party lines anymore...nope...now I would be open to a 3rd party candidate...kinda liked Ross Perot...

But after you (and the whole blinkin' world) found out he lied, you no longer supported him, correct? (It took you that long? LOL.) That was my point, that's all.

Respecting the office is one thing, but the incumbent is open to criticism I figure.
