Republican Will Run Unopposed in 'Pro-Kerry' District...
Whats a sheepa to do now?????? All his hard work to vote demos into office is swirling the toilet bowl...
(CNSNews.com) - A first-term Republican congressman from Pennsylvania will not face a Democrat challenger in the mid-term election, and while that's good news for Republicans, it another black eye for Democrats, the National Republican Congressional Committee said.
Last year, the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said Democrats planned to run their candidates against Republican lawmakers in all 18 congressional districts that went for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election.
But it's not happening.
The National Republican Congressional Committee points to Rep. Charlie Dent, a Republican from Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District, who will not be targeted by Democrats in 2006, even though Dent's district went heavily for Kerry in 2004.
The NRCC said the lack of a Democratic challenger for Dent is a "major setback" for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's recruitment plan.
[DCCC Chair Rahm] Emanuel has failed to deliver on his promises, as national Democrats have left a gaping hole in their recruitment efforts for this fall's elections by not fielding a challenger in a Kerry district in a battleground state," National Republican Congressional Committee Communications Director Carl Forti said.
Forti said Dent "now appears destined to win re-election." He was elected to U.S. House of Representatives in 2004 with 59 percent of the vote.
The Easton Express-Times newspaper reported that two Democrats had declared their intention to run against Dent, but neither filed petitions by the required deadline. They must now run as write-in candidates, if they choose to run at all, the newspaper quoted a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of State as saying on Wednesday.
One of Dent's would-be Democrat challengers said he was not able to get the 1,000 signatures required to put his name on the Pennsylvania ballot.
Last month, in another embarrassment, a Democrat running for Congress in Ohio's 6th Congressional District was disqualified from running in the Democratic primary. State Sen. Charlie Wilson, who was expected to win the primary election, failed to get the minimum number of petition signatures.
