If Blanco who was in Louisiana at the time, thought the levees hand't been breeched, why should Pres Bush have believed otherwise?
New Video Shows Blanco Saying Levees Safe
WASHINGTON - In the hectic, confused hours after Hurricane Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast, Louisiana's governor hesitantly but mistakenly assured the Bush administration that New Orleans' protective levees were intact, according to new video obtained by The Associated Press showing briefings that day with federal officials.
"We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees," Gov. Kathleen Blanco said shortly after noon on Aug. 29, according to the video. "We heard a report unconfirmed, I think, we have not breached the levee. I think we have not breached the levee at this time."
In fact, the National Weather Service received a report of a levee breach and issued a flash-flood warning as early as 9:12 a.m. that day, according to the White House's formal recounting of events the day Katrina struck.
Critics have maintained the Homeland Security Department responded too slowly to the breaches, delaying repair efforts and allowing flooding to worsen. Formal reports of New Orleans' levee breaches reached the White House by 6 p.m., and the administration confirmed the damage by the next morning, according to the White House's recount.
In the video of the conference call, Blanco appears uncertain about the reliability of her information and cautioned that the situation "could change."
Blanco said floodwaters were rising in parts of the city "where we have waters that are 8 to 10 feet deep, and we have people swimming in there."
"That's got a considerable amount of water itself," the governor said. "That's about all I know right now on the specifics that you haven't heard."
The AP separately obtained video earlier from other briefings before the hurricane made landfall. That video showed U.S. officials warning that Katrina might breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers.
Before the release of the latest video, lawmakers from both parties said the pre-Katrina briefing for President Bush and top administration officials raised new questions about government response to the storm that flooded New Orleans and killed more than 1,300 people.

Ok Demomorons. Now you have nothing more to say. It clearly was the fault of your own parties lack of leadership skills. Bush and co. offered help and your pinhead colleage declined the help.

Wow, that is pretty far fetched reach for strings against Democrats. Proving again the neocons here will try anything to claw back out of the toilet their Administration has flushed them down. Not one part of this article proves anything other than there was uncertainty once the storm came ashore. What these morons forget about is that nobody, not emergency rescue, not local police, fire department, etc. could respond until after the storm cleared.
This is simply another shallow attempt to push the blame away from where it truly lies... upon the Bush Administration. These feeble attempts are laughable.

And it is the very Demomorons that think they should have responded during the storm. Never mind the fact the complete failure of Demomorons to evacuate the area ahead of time.
What you dipsticks (demomorons) forget is Florida was hit just as hard only two weeks later. And what happened there. The republicans ordered evacuations. Most left. The ones who did not were simply told. To friggen bad. You were told to leave.

All you neocons see things in black and white and that is exactly the problem. You do it with everything, and have absolutely no skills of reasoning. It simply proves the neocon agenda is one without intelligence or thought.

You two do realize that there were only one or two people on this boiard that said it was all Bush's fault and those are people that find a way to blame him for their hang nails.
New Orleans was a national embarassment. It was not a democratic issue, not a republican issue, it was a government and organizational issue that is indefensible. Way too many failures on way too many fronts. Rather than spend a few more months pointing fingers, I'd love to see some of that energy directed towards recovery. Why are there people still living in tents? Why is their republican governemnt dragging their feet and why are their democratic local representatives not kicking someone in the ass?

fenix asks: "Why are there people still living in tents?"
Because they're doing what they've always done....sit around until someone from some gov. agency tells them they're there to 'take care of them....make it all better. Don't think they'd have the initiative to act under their own will power do you?
Nope...that's just not going to ever happen. They've been trained by the liberals it's gov. responsibility to sit around and WAIT until the gov. steps in to SAVE them.

And why havent all the mobile homes sitting at the airport in Arkansas been moved to NO???
Because there is no place in NO to put them. They cant be placed on lots next to the damaged homes because the property has been condemned.

Oh Linda - Stuff a sock in it. Tell you what. why don't we do a little experiment. Lets take all of your clothes, all of your belongings and your home away... and then we will do the same to all of your friends so they can't help you and we'll put you in a tent in a town with little to no employment opportunities and even fewer rental properties and see how long it takes you to get on your feet?
You are a compansionless snob that lives in neverland. You have no clue what reality is when you live paycheck to paycheck and suddenly lose everything. It's not normalluy something I would wish on anyone but I think in your case, at least on a temporary basis, it might be a good thing.

Bear - I understand that in many cases they cannot be placed on the land the people formerly lived on, but couldn't they set them up on some of the land that is currently housing the tents? There are ones sitting on a lot just outside of New Orleans. Why not turn that lot into a temp "trailer park" with time limitied occupancy while residents rehab their property or find a developer to buy it and use the proceeds to move into something more permanent?

LOL fenix. You calling me a snob because I am SELF-SUFFICIENT? AND SELF-RELIANT?
Making up pretend stories about what your own actions would be????
No dear heart....I'd have been out with my most treasured possessions...family pics etc...BEFORE the storm hit...when they were ALL being warned to evacuate.
See...I'm not as stupid as you think I am. How is being smart and taking five days worth of WARNINGS to heart make one a snob.
I wasn't raised to be a democrat and sit on MY ass waiting for the government to take care of me. No way. But that's how you liberals train your supporters to be....inactive...dependent....waiting for instructions from the gov. on how to save their own lives.

IF you had read my link to Meet The Press when Russert was interviewing Chernoff
you'd have heard/read that some of these people in those situtations don't want TO GO and they can't force them to.
Also, that some communities would NOT approve a bunch of trailers being placed in THEIR communities....can't FORCE them either.
But to deny that this governor and this mayor were so inept that all those people were NOT evacuated....and that so many of them died....is total denial...living in some sort of fantasy land.

This whole post is moot.
No matter what was done it wouldn’t have made any difference.
The levee’s weren’t up to par because of State and local corruption, that’s gone on for the last couple hundred years.
The New Orleans police got up and left before the storm hit, leaving the population at risk.
Any and all aid would have gone through the State and local government first. That would have been lost or stolen.
There’s enough blame for all involved and then some more.
I don’t think anything the federal government could have done would have made this situation any better.

Amen,

No Linda - just calling them as I see them. You are the one that keeps trying to misrepresent what I am saying. I just corrected you, because it especially annoying to see someone that accuses others of being liars... wait.. maybe I should bold that so that you can recognize the irony...Liars anytime your comments are even slightly misrepresented do it themself, twice no less, in a matter of a couple hours.
That said, as long as you can resist the urge to misrepresent my words, I've said all I need to say.
