I jus read something about the post office offering insurance on international packages but it may have been UK only. I don't ship to Canada because their customs system is the pits, everything gets delayed and I get chargebacks.

Maggie go to www.usps.com and check out the shipping to Canada. The site will tell you if insurance is available or not.
If its a high priced item, you will want some type of signature confirmation to prevent a charge back. I think that is only available with global express option and it ain't cheap. You may want to contact the bidder about the amount of shipping price before the auction ends or you can remove their bid.
