Bush blasted for remarks on Abramoff, DeLay

Democratic leaders criticized President Bush on Thursday for his remarks on the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and the indictment of Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas).
During an interview on Fox News, Bush called Abramoff an "equal money dispenser" and said Abramoff gave to Democrats as well as Republicans. The overwhelming majority of the money, though, went to Republicans, and Abramoff was a top Bush fundraiser.
"The facts speak for themselves: Jack Abramoff was a GOP partisan with partisan goals who funneled over $3 million to Republicans over the past five years. And only Republicans are under investigation in the largest pay-to-play scandal to hit Congress in over 20 years," the Democratic National Committee said in response.
Bush also defended DeLay, who has been indicted for violating election laws in Texas, during the interview. Democrats said it was hypocritical for Bush to comment about an ongoing legal case when the White House has claimed a policy against doing so, particularly in the CIA leak case that has implicated top White House officials.
