I think Christmas is one big stupid day. It starts with sending out pre-packaged cards, picking up a pre-packaged fake tree, pre-packaged lights, and pre-packaged ornaments that cost about $5.00 each. The gifts, which I don't understand why we give gifts to each other, are wrapped to perfection with pre-packaged wrapping and fancy pre-packaged bows. That's if you can fit them into a package - hopefully you can't because they're either a new computer or a new car, or both.
I'd like to get back to the Christmas's that meant something, like making your own gifts or making cookies as gifts instead of them being appetizers. And remember when giving your child a doll or a new teddy bear meant the world? Now giving a computer or a new car means very little because it's stuff we can acquire any day.
Can any of you remember what you got last Christmas? What about the one before that? Can your kids?
As adults, I think it's up to us to stop this insanity or it will get worse than it is now. I think of todays kids saying "wouldn't it be nice if we could go back to the days when we only gave computers and cars for Christmas gifts?"

I know what I got last year... an Ipod and the Bloomin Onion machine that my mother and I have re-gifted to each other for birthdays and Christmases for the past five years. This year she's getting it as a housewarming gift.

Ms.Fenix, you crack me up!
Bloomin Onion machine.ROFLMAO
Krafty, Christmas is what you make it. If you want an old fashion Christmas, then make it that way.
I know what you mean, Christmas has become so commercial, but I still bake goodies for gifts.
Up until this year I would buy little things for the neighbor kids and give a baked good with it for the families. {they've all disappeared after Katrina)
My daughter and her children serve Christmas dinner every year at the local homeless shelter in their home town.
Telephone calls during the holidays to friends and family overseas or far away is always a treat. Christmas Eve service at Church is nice if you attend church.
You live up North where this time of the year is magical.. go out on your deck at midnight, hopefully the sky will be filled with bright stars and big fluffy snow flakes will be falling silently..breath it all in and enjoy the beauty of it all.
I must be having my own sugar high.. all the baking and sampling I've been doing today!
LOL
The best gifts I get now are those made by my granddaughter, grand nieces and nephews. My children used to make gifts, too. Jenny is good with making fancy pillows with only things she has laying around the house. She also bakes the best oatmeal raisin cookies! Those are the gifts I have displayed (or eaten as is the case with cookies. LOL) and will always be the most important!
Christmas has become far too commercial.

What's a Bloomin' Onion Machine, is anything like a F%$^ing George Foreman Grill?

Fenix - LOL!
Sorry, I wasn't referring to my Christmas or any individuals - it was more the commercialism of Christmas and what it's become to our society, mainly kids, and what it will be for their kids. Scary!

Here you go Prof - it cuts the onion then you deep fry it and pick out pieces out. I bought it as a joke years ago for her for Christmas and got it back the next year and the tradition began.
