Are you praying in public? [just teasing] [maybe it's not a good time to tease?????]

Don't fret. I just heard a democrat, who's as pissed as all get out, saying in 100 days when Arnold doesn't turn things around, CA will be enjoying another recall election...this time for Arnold.

Gray Davis fits your description--or didn't you ever pay attention to accounts in the past of how he physically bullied his staff even before he was governor. His own secretary refused to work in the same office with him...

And, frankly, I think the vast majority of the accounts we have heard in the past week about Scwarzenegger are highly exaggerated.

I am soooo glad Davis is OUT. One of my dogs would make a better governor than him! And grateful we didn't get stuck with Bustamante--a man who can't distinguish between legal and illegal aliens...

Bunni - I was not referring to the groping reports when I used the term bullying. I was reffering to his speaking style in internviews and the single debate. He is so used to operating from a power position in show business that he thinks its a position that translates into the political arena and I think it is going to blow up in his face. If you listened to the various "experts" talking about his future tonight, nearly all of them mentioned that issue and how it will hamper his ability to deal with a democratic majority legislature.

You have my sympathies! When my boyfriend announced that he thinks we should move to California, I told him to go right on ahead. From this end of the world, the entire thing is a joke - and not a very funny one at that. I hate our governor, he's done nothing for the state but raise our taxes. However, I now feel grateful to have him.

Cheryl - next time your boyfriend mentions California tell him to compare job wages and availablility against housing costs and cost of living. Not a favorable comparison (unless of course he is in biotech).

So the complain is that Arnold once did to a dozen or so women what Davis has been doing to the whole state for the last year?

Too bad there is not a recall statute for federal offices.

how soon you moving down to mexico?

LOL

California is not the "Love me at all costs" some people seem to believe... they do not like illegals anymore than anyother state...
I think this should prove it... and if Arnold can't get it turned around in 100 days, but has the Dem legislature to blame... that will make the next elections really interesting.

Amazing though a record turn out of voters... think they finally wised up.

Another problem for Bush.

Schwarzenegger Win Could Have Downside for Bush

Mr. Bush's advisers have long been concerned that the pleasure of removing Mr. Davis from office would come with a cost: a wheelbarrow of fiscal and governance problems dumped into the lap of an inexperienced new Republican governor.

And now, several Republicans say, the flurry of last-minute stories about Mr. Schwarzenegger's past — including repeated accusations of improper sexual advances toward women and a report that he once expressed admiration for Hitler — suggest that a victory for the actor might prove a dubious prize for the Republican Party, while presenting complications for Mr. Bush in 2004.

Indeed, analysts and some Republicans said on Sunday that Mr. Bush might not want to be too closely associated with a Governor Schwarzenegger, particularly after two years in which the president has made an effort to fortify his standing with two groups that presumably are paying particular attention to events here: women and Jewish voters.

All he has to do is get a bunch of good EXPERIENCED people working for and around him. Then at least it will appear as he is doing fine. Thats what Regan did.

Linda, seems like all you care about is if the candidate is republican. I could never understand how one can be so 'party' hardcore and blindsided to the person themselves.

Party hardcore huh? And are you 'blindsided' to those who *only* support the democrats that post here? Or because you agree with their position you don't notice/can't see those people?

neroter12 - So, the way you see my posts are I pound for the republican side. BUT you DON'T see Helen, among others, pounding for their side the same exact way, huh? No, according to you, she's just 'arguing for issues'. LOL

I didn't vote for President Bush [nor Gore] but rather a third party. But I am here to tell you I *fully* believe the democratic party [now calling themselves progressives] are working to head this country in the wrong direction.

I have made the judgement/formed my opinion that the way this President has handled himself since 9-11 is admirable. We needed a leader who was willing to do something about the attacks that terrorists have been taking against America. He has shown true leadership qualities.

So maybe that's why you read my posts as being for the party, rather than for the individual person. Because it basically does come down to which party you favor....not find perfect. The elections and policies are determined by the two parties. Now I agree more with the republican side of the aisle, and see the democratic side as going way too progressive. I also believe that's one major reason we just witnessed the major landslide in CA. Many think the left has gone too far left.

So...to conclude....if you don't think Helen falls into the same catagory that you're trying to put me into....I think you're not being very honest.

Why are you bringing my name into your defense. You can't come up with a decent argument about anything without using comparisons to other politicians or people. Speak for yourself for a change and focus your attention on the actions and policy of your politicians rather than their actions and policy in relation to other politicians. Stop blaming Clinton and Hillary for Bush's actions.

The sleaze defense is a weak defense.

Why are you bringing my name into your defense.

I don't see it as "defending" myself. I see it as explaining myself, and the positions I take, to neroter12. It's called communicating with one another.

I don't care when you repsond to what. I just resent your continued desire to censor everything I say TO SOMEONE ELSE.

Hey Linda, although I consider myself mostly much like the "dreaded liberal" republicans complain about, I have disagreed with Helen on somethings - whether I posted it or not - but she either maintains her opinion, or concedes maybe so (sorry Helen for dragging your name into - just stating the facts here....lol).

We are all entitled to our opinion. ?????

That said, I think it was just wonderful to see the Kennedy's (die-hard democrats) celebrating with Arnold's victory. I wonder how many republicans can/did/would cross the line like that? To me, thats why there is so much bottleneck in Washington; the stupid party lines. It's always about Power, Money and Control. Buncha big little kids in a schoolyard maken a competition out of our welfare instead of looking at the issues and working it out.

On another note in his first press conference since winning the gubernatorial election California's new Governor stated that his team is now studying the possibility of rescinding the car tax and has backed away from his core promise to California of canceling the tax his first (or any) day of being in office.

Yes it's business as usual in Sacramento.

Excuse my language but what the hell are you talking about? January has been my target timeline since I made the decision. There are a lot of things involved with moving out of the country, especially if you are planning on starting a new busness in that country. It's not like getting a new apartment just sign a lease and move....

but she either maintains her opinion, or concedes maybe so. Thanks for that GREAT laugh. I have posted on these boards since approx. 1997-1998 and have NEVER seen helen CONCEDE on anything. She's straight hard core progressive. Your glasses are fogged up. Maybe it's because you agree with the positions she takes, while you don't agree with mine [that's fine] that lead you to this conclusion.

I've tried to say that helen is as far left as you see me being far right, but to you there's a difference somehow. I'm saying there is no difference.

Stop - you are coming in on the middle of a convo. No, I am not moving to obtain cheap merchandise. They have these neat new services like USPS, Fed-Ex, even Delta Air Cargo that allow people to buy from foreign countries without have to live there. They are really quite revolutionary.

I am moving because I enjoy exploring new terrotiories and new experiences. I picked Mexico because I started on the east coast, moved westward over the years, then started south. I figured there were two choices... farther west to Japan or farther south to Mexico. Japan is a little cost prohibitive right now and since I love the time I have spent in Mexico in the past, I love the culture, the artistic styles and the people constantly amaze me I picked Mexico. My intention while I am there is to set up a company doing native english web translation and working with smaller manufacturers and artisans to establish ecommerce portals in order to open up the markets for their products.

As for missing Gringos... no not really. I don't really judge people by their ethnicity, I may miss english conversation but I do have a few friends there that are striving for english fluency and would rather have conversations with me in english than spanish as it gives them an opportunity to learn more. As for Twelve... they have high speed access in Mexico. I can always get my fix of his charms. Truth be told, while I may want to reach out and pop some sense into his head and open his moind a bit. I enjoy Twelve. I don't always agree with him, and I object to his name calling but at least (most of the time) his arguements are based on issues and not personal attacks and I respect that.

you are right,i did not get the whole picture, somewhere someone said you are moving to mexico to take advantage of cheap labor to make your lines of something>.
anyway,i salute you for your choice of mexico over japan, japan is a very nice place but very expensive to live .i was thinking the other days, american men make the best husband while the japanese men make the worst,of course not all on this board will agree with me.
but it is a fact japanese women would rather stay single longer than to go out with japanese men and japanese men have to take lessons on how to make themselves more attractive to their women.
but japan offers life pleasures such as bath houses, small tasty eateries, great service and dedication and cleanliness.
and they could use you to practice their horrible english

Stop - twelve keeps trying to goad me with accusations of taking advantage of cheap labor. What he doesn't get is that they people I end up working for are the ones getting the cheap labor... I'll definately make less doing it in Mexico than I would in the US

I'm not really looking at destinations in terms of possible relationships, they either happen or they don't. As for the english skills of Japanese, they can genetrally read and write it quite well as that is taken in scool but the speaking aspects are where the difficulties lie. By coincidence, if I had chosen Japan I would have probably gome as a conversational english teacher. It's still an open option that I will probably explore in a few years. I am cursed with a rather bad case of wanderlust. I'll at east be at an advatage then because everyone has told me that learning Japanese is much easier for those that know spanish since all of the vowels and such are pronounced the same. It's basically just a matter of learning the vocabulary.

Stopwhining, I agree with you 100% about the relations between Japenese men and women, I lived there for about two years total
During the time my husband was there with me, one dear Japanese friend tried to convince him to divorce me and marry her! And she was a dear friend too, don't get me wrong. She had to get married, in order to inherit her family's factories- and her little sister would get it if she didn't marry. She couldn't stomach the thought of marrying a Japanese man, she promised him it would be only for the name- he could move home and go back to me- this is a cultured, educated woman, mind you. I felt so bad for her I almost agreed!
As far as the language goes, i had always picked up languages "on the street" so to speak- I was tolerable in French, Italian and German, picked up while I lived there- but after 2 years in Japan, I had, at best, 50 words, maybe. And I had a teacher for a while., It was humbling. It's the construction and grammer that get you- very strange, and many many homonyms, that can only be figured out by the context. On the other hand, yes, the language is easy to pronounce. I could learn to mimic songs and give people a tear in the eye, even though I didn't know what I was singing. It is easy to parrot, hard to comprehend.
As far as I know the language has nothing to do with any indonesian language, although Korean sounds quite like it- but Korea and Japan hate each other so desperately, they will never admit kinship.
