Hi all.......She bought and paid promptly. I shipped promptly. THREE WEEKS later the package is returned to me stamped 'UNKNOWN' with an arrow pointing to the address. (Never had any "Where is it?" inquiry from her during that time.) I checked the PayPal page and the address is correct. I mailed her for confirmation of the address and she said she'd lived there for 18 years. She doesn't want to pay (not even 1/2) and wants me to fight with the PO. I think that'd be time-consuming and probably futile. Not sure how to proceed. Any thoughts? Her feedback is OK. Small $ involved. Maybe I should just refund to her. Any thoughts?

Since it was the PO's mistake I would stop in or give them a call before I would cancel the sale. Give them the information the buyer gave you.

Double check the address in the USPS zip code lookup.

http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp

If it shows as valid, and you really think they will give you a hard time, just print out that page and take it with you.

I meant to add that if the address is correct, neither of you will have to pay for reshipment.

Strangely, many folks have addresses which are UNDELIVERABLE by the USPS, but just fine for package services such as UPS, FEDEX, & DHL...

A lot of RURAL folks have a STREET ADDRESS which is fine for UPS, but NOT valid as far as USPS is concerned, & those folks thus almost always have a USPS BOX NUMBER address in their closest town...

That's why it is so important to run the address given by the buyer through the USPS AMS (Address Matching System) to determine if the given address is VALID by USPS standards...

If you use STAMPS.COM or ENDICIA, they do it for you automatically...

If you are hand addressing the item, then use the free doo-hickey at the USPS site noted by Zippy...

Most misdirected or non-delivered packies get into trouble due to:

1) Illegiable handwriting
or
2) INVALID address as per the USPS AMS

In your case, I would run the address thru the AMS, and print out your PROOF of valid address & take to to yer PO -- they SHOULD re-mail at NO CHARGE...

I agree with other posts. We have a good relationship with the PO and if we go in there and say WT***, this is a good address, etc, nicely, of course, they have always redelivered it free.

Hi and thanks to all..........Guess I'm not giving the PO enough credit. We do have a good relationship, so I'll give them a try.
